3X Emmy Winner Blasts Aaron Boone After Old Timers’ Day Snub as Yankees Legend Voices Alarm on Declining State

People say that the New York Yankee Stadium can be a magical place. But now, it’s more of a punishment for the fans, let alone the fun. Watching the entire team falter under pressure, even from teams like the Miami Marlins—with a sweep—is not easy for fans to swallow. There are growing calls for a regime change because fans are restless. From the blown leads to the bullpen meltdowns, they are not the same team they were.

The flashpoint had to be a 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Houston Astros. Plus, Devin Williams gave up a game-deciding homer in the 10th. That sting hurt, because it was not Williams’ first time not being able to close the door when needed, right? Still, Aaron Boone has gone on to defend Williams from the get-go. For fans, it’s deja vu in all the wrong ways.

Even off the field, the optics were not great. During the Yankees Old Timers Day ceremony that honored the 2000 championship team, Boone, who was there, was not introduced with the former players. Roger Clemens got his ovation, and others got the love, but Boone—nada, left off the roll call. Some saw this as nothing, but others saw this as a symbolic sign.

I don’t think it’s an overreaction to say that between some of the quotes from the old timers, and not introducing Boone during the ceremony, this day is a referendum on the current team. I hope they take in the signs and respond appropriately.

Randy Wilkings, the 3X Emmy winner, mentioned, “I don’t think it’s an overreaction to say that between some of the quotes from the old-timers and not introducing Boone during the ceremony, this day is a referendum on the current team. I hope they take in the signs and respond appropriately.” And well, the quotes from the old-timers he is talking about have been pretty rough. Jorge Posada, for example, took the mic, and it was not for nostalgic recollection but a wake-up call: “They have to get a little angry. You can’t be friends with everybody.” And it’s not just him.

Willie Randolph mentioned, “Teams are not afraid of us anymore.” He wanted to get back those days when visiting teams knew that they were in for a big fight. That golden era, when the Yankees won back-to-back championships. Not being in this drought since forever! His message is simple: September is war, and you lose that edge, and the standings will make the decision for you. Even Derek Jeter was missing from the celebration, but let’s not forget he has voiced his concern surrounding the team. Even Alex Rodriguez has pointed out the issues with the team.

For now, the Yanks look like they are in a deep puddle. Boone is, of course, at the thick of it, and every move is being dissected, and it’s tough for Boone now in New York. However, it’s not that no one understands Boone; some certainly do paint a different picture.

Joe Torre throws Aaron Boone a lifeline!

Joe Torre knows exactly how hot Boone’s manager seat can get. He sat in it for years, and so on Saturday, before the old-timers’ day honoring the past champs, the Hall of Fame skipper decided to toss a little backup, a little lifeline, for Aaron Boone. “I feel for Aaron Boone,” Torre said. And that’s the type of calm he got after surviving over a decade of being in pinstripes. Torre mentioned, I’ve been in that place where you’re trying to, you know, rearrange the furniture and hopefully make a difference. But again, this club’s too good not to have a run, and there’s still time left. You know, if we were September 1, I’d be more concerned, but I have a lot of confidence.” Right now, the Yankees are holding on to that Wild Card spot like it’s the last seat in a subway during a Monday rush.

The injuries have piled on, and the inconsistency is the only thing the New York Yankees show up for. Boone has now been a manager for eight years and has taken the team to the playoffs six times. They even made it to the World Series last season, their first since Torre’s 2003 gig. But New York doesn’t live in the past, and Boone should know it. Torre, though, sees a steadiness in his successor. He said to SNY, “First off, he doesn’t panic… Boonie has been down this road before. I mean, he’s a third-generation Major Leaguer, and I just feel in my heart that they’re going to make a run and be where they’re supposed to be at the end.”

Now, coming from a man who has managed four World Series, this is nothing. Torre knows that the pressure is high in the Bronx, and sometimes here one bad week can feel like a referendum on one’s career. Boone and Torres, meanwhile, have been close, with Torres on his staff for the 2025 All-Star Game. Whether Torres’ belief turns to an October run remains to be seen.
