Miami Hurricanes and Mario Cristobal bid adieu to one of the best QBs in Cam Ward to the NFL draft. And it did not take much time to land another solid QB in Carson Beck from Georgia for his last season. A deal that saw him earning close to $4 million and a union with his girlfriend who plays basketball for Miami. But it seems Cristobal is also planning for the long term, and here’s why.
After notching up a solid class of 2025 season that heavily relied on transfers too. Cristobal is now after some of the best prospects of the nation to make his 2026 class even more solid one. Currently, he has taken up the commitment of the Linebacker Jordan Campbell, ranked 6th in his position nationally. Then there is Camdim Portis (CB), another 4-star prospect with a 90 rating on 247Sport. Looking good, right? Well, wait, there’s more.
Mario Cristobal has been long after the 5-star 2026 prospect Tristen Keys. Ranked 1st in his Wide receiver position and 4th nationally overall. 247 Sports rating gives him a solid 98, and he has talent beyond these stats. Take, for example, his solid physique. He stands at around 6 foot,2 and a half inches and weighs around 180 lbs. This makes him perfect for those aerial duels and winning the ball. But, the question is: Is Keys coming to Miami?
Well, in a recent interview on CanesInSight ,he was asked about what he thinks about Mario Cristobal. To which he replied warmly, “What’s different about him maybe, than some of the other coaches that that you talk to Across the way; like I said he’s an authentic person. Me and him get along, I kind of see my personality and he been through some things that kind of moted him same with me“. Keys has got 33 offers till now with colleges like Miami, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee pursuing his services. But it seems his admiration for Mario Cristobal is something that may influence his decision, and here’s why.
Keys added about Mario Cristobal. “We just we kind of like the same people we kind of like mesh a little bit so we see eye to eye on different things. So like he could tell me change this and explain it like has a great understanding in things and when you kind of talk to him and get to know him you kind of understand like where they come from”. As a matter of fact, he visited the Canes on March 3 and had a great time with the coaches and the staff. So, does this mean is it a done deal?
Tristen Keys decides finally when to commit?
Well, not conclusively. But, the player has jotted down a timeline as to when he will be ready to make a final decision. He said, “I plan to commit right after official visits. I want to commit before August hits and before the season starts”. So when are his official visits scheduled? Well, his official visit would commence from a visit to Canes on May 30 to 1st June. Next up, he is going to visit Texas A&M, which will be from June 5 to 7. Which will be followed by Tennessee Volunteers’ visit around the 13th to the 15th of June. And later will end with LSU and Alabama, both in June. So, what does this mean?
Well, this essentially means that the player has locked in on a few colleges and will be making his official visits. However, one question comes to mind: what about Sherrone Moore’s Michigan?
Well, Michigan and Alabama were the two teams who were running at the forefront to avail his services. But, now it seems they have lagged far behind in convincing the player to join them. As is evident from the fact that they are nowhere near the probability rankings to land him. But, still Sherrone Moore couldn’t be underestimated, as he has all the potential to pull off another ‘Bryce Underwood’ for Tristen Keys.
