$50M Star Linked With Dodgers Faces Major Trade Setback as MLB Insider Drops Grim Update

From the early days of their franchise history, the White Sox have never shied away from shaking things up. Trading away top talent for the promise of future stars has become a theme on the South Side. You can refer to the Frank Thomas-era decisions or more recent moves involving Chris Sale and Jose Quintana. But the team has often found itself at the center of headline-grabbing trades.

But this time feels different. With their latest top-performing slugger emerging as the centerpiece of trade rumors, the stakes have rarely been higher. For a team already staring down a difficult road ahead, the decision to once again part ways with a cornerstone talent is casting a long shadow over the franchise’s immediate future.

Guess what! The White Sox’s hopes to get a good trading deal for Luis Robert Jr. are facing uncertainty. At least, MLB insider Jon Heyman thinks so. “He’s got to get hotter before anything heats up on the trade front,” Heyman mentioned. “So I don’t see any trade materializing for Luis Robert at the moment.”

Will you pick someone with an inconsistent form in exchange for your top prospects? No. Initially, the Dodgers were reportedly eyeing the dynamic but divisive outfielder as a potential prize. Well, on paper, Robert is everything a contender could want. Young, athletic, and brimming with potential.

But when you dig a little deeper, the shine begins to dull. For all the hype around him, Robert hasn’t consistently lived up to the billing as one of baseball’s elite. And if the White Sox are hoping for a franchise-altering haul in return, they might be staring down a harsh reality.

While the Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, was positive about getting Luis Robert Jr., that optimism was short-lived.

With a career BA of .262 and 93 HRs in 1,917 at-bats, he seemed to be a hot property once. But right now, there is nothing hot running around Robert. This is largely due to his persistent inability to stay healthy.

Robert’s is currently standing with a .176 average and an OPS barely above .570. Hence, it’s unlikely that any team would consider parting with a top prospect to acquire him. Just when he seemed to be turning a corner with a seven-game hitting streak from late April into early May, that progress has stalled again. Over his last nine games, he’s gone just 4-for-31, further highlighting the inconsistency that continues to define his career.

The White Sox are getting a renewed interest

While the Dodgers are no more in contention for Robert, the Mets reportedly are in the business now.

“The Chicago White Sox finally are starting to get some inquiries on center fielder Luis Robert, with the New York Mets recently among the teams checking in and showing interest,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale mentioned.

But given Robert’s current struggles, both with health and performance, it’s fair to question whether the Mets would be willing to make that kind of commitment.

Tidwell, a 2022 second-round pick, has been on the rise, showing the potential to develop into a mid-rotation starter. Now, for the Mets to trade that kind of controllable arm, a player like Robert could be a risky move. Because Robert is injury-prone, his numbers are also not that great.

Even with Robert’s 2023 season showing what he can be when fully healthy and locked in, the inconsistencies since then make it difficult to justify surrendering a premium arm like Tidwell. So, the only option for the White Sox to ensure a profitable deal is to ensure Robert back to his form.

In this case, holding him up might prove profitable for the White Sox. This will enable the team to trade him during his peak time. What do you think?
