58-YO Troy Aikman Pumps Iron Days After Being Dominated by Ex-Cowboys Coach in Surprising Activity

Troy Aikman, at 58, is doing things that could easily make any young NFL athlete ashamed. Even after 25 years of his retirement from the NFL, Aikman still takes his fitness regimen pretty seriously. Despite not having to throw TDs or dodge defenders in the pocket, the Hall of Famer doesn’t believe in taking rests. Seeing his Instagram story update today speaks a lot about Aikman’s approach to physical health.

On Thursday, Aikman was captured sharing gym photos early in the morning. There, he flexed his biceps, which didn’t look like one bit of someone soon hitting his sixties. You just cannot help but admire Aikman’s dedication to working out even though he doesn’t have any clear obligations.

“People still ask, Why do you still work out so hard? The reason is simple—because it’s really important to me. It’s not a secret. Putting in the work is a reason for my success. Whether as an athlete, broadcaster, or anything in general. I’m willing to do whatever it takes,” Aikman once said as per Muscle and Fitness. Well, looking ripped at 58 wasn’t something Aikman achieved in a year or two since his gridiron retirement.

As per Men’s Health Gym’s exclusive interview with Aikman, he revealed how his first stop is always the gym. Harboring a huge love for dumbbells, Aikman is known for doing cardio 5 to 6 days a week while lifting weights at least 4 days. It’s been his routine for the last 15 years. So, it shouldn’t be a complete surprise seeing him jacked in the late fifties. Someone who considers missing “five days of cardio in a year..a lot” speaks a lot about his gym mindset.

However, there are still a few exercises Aikman has to avoid because of a back injury that ended his NFL career early. The 3-time Super Bowl Champion avoids engaging in barbell squats or exercises that put undue pressure on his neck and spine areas. So, with his gym workout sorted in every possible way. Aikman also trains his body in a way that offers not only physical but also mental benefits.

Troy Aikman finds enlightenment in the path of yoga and meditation

Just last month, the Cowboys’ legendary QB was found opening up on his one-year yogaversary with former Dallas coach Jason Garrett. On a post where Garrett was captured cracking a full smile while Aikman only had half a grin. Cowboys’ former No.1 pick wrote, “Not sure why Jason is so happy but one year of hot yoga later, and it still kicks my a–but somewhere in that struggle is the reward of letting go.” Judging by Aikman’s words, it seems like he and Garett were testing themselves through some hot yoga for a year. But even after a year of intense yoga sessions, Aikman still believes he has a lot to improve upon.

Aikman has been pretty open about his views on meditation ever since he retired from gridiron duties. Three years ago, he told Dallas Innovates how he believed his career could have been different if he had practiced meditation earlier. “Had I been practicing meditation when I was playing with the Cowboys. I would have been a different teammate. And I think I would have been a better teammate.” While we wouldn’t know whether meditation would have impacted Aikman’s time in the NFL or not.

It has surely sent him on a path of self-reflection, which serves as a key component of meditation. As he continues to self-reflect and build superman muscles at 58. Aikman serves as a role model for those who are trying to keep their fitness routine intact even after saying goodbye to the gridiron.
