“99% of People Don’t Know My Real Name” – Coco Gauff Drops Hilarious Truth Bomb in Candid Interaction

“I think maybe just because Coco is just so easy and recognizable. People like it more than using my last name, which kind of just sounds like a sport,” said Coco Gauff after her first-round victory over Varvara Gracheva at the US Open last year. After a tough exit from the Miami Open last month, Coco took some well-earned downtime! However, as she gears up for the European clay court season now, the 21-year-old has playfully reignited curiosity about her full name, teasing fans once again. There’s still a fun little mystery behind the name we all know. What’s that?

Coco Gauff entered the Miami Open as the third seed. But in a surprising turn, the 2023 US Open champ fell in straight sets to Poland’s Magda Linette in the R16. It’s been a season of highs and lows for Coco. She started strong with a United Cup victory for Team USA, only to face a quarterfinal setback at the AO and a challenging run through the Middle East.

A similar story unfolded in the Indian Wells, where she bowed out to Belinda Bencic in the R16. Now, as she takes a breather before the clay court swing, Coco shares a playful reminder about the quirky mystery of her real name!

Just a while back, Coco Gauff gave fans a dose of laughter by sharing a hilarious meme from the popular page Memezar on her IG story. The original post was boldly captioned “My grandma wins this one, l still don’t know her name,” featuring the cheeky phrase “When bro’s nickname is so iconic that his real name is just a myth,” in the image. The American ace couldn’t resist adding her own twist to it, reposting it with a cryptic comment, “The way 99% of people don’t know my real name.” But what’s the story behind her name?

In the early chapters of Gauff’s tennis journey, she appeared on draw sheets, tournament listings, and media coverage under her legal name: Cori. But long before she etched her name in history as the youngest American woman in 25 years to win the US Open, there was another name: just four letters, that held her heart. It was the name her family always called her. The name that the world proudly chants today: Coco!

“My aunt says she came up with calling me Coco. But then my dad [Corey Gauff] said when he was younger, people used to call [him] ‘Co.’ Then he was like, ‘I’ll call my daughter Coco. Every time I check into hotels or people at the airport … they look at my ID, and obviously [at] the airport you book under your real name, but the person sometimes will recognize me and they’ll be like, ‘Wait, are you Coco?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s just a nickname. I’m not somebody that looks like her,” Coco said last year

As Coco Gauff playfully nudges fans to dig into her roots and uncover the story behind her real name, she’s also turning heads for a different reason. Effortlessly blending elegance and heritage, she’s making a bold fashion statement, showcasing her radiant hair and striking style in collaboration with one of her key sponsors.

Coco Gauff reinvents the beauty game in partnership with Carol’s Daughter

In April last year, Coco Gauff signed a partnership deal with the iconic natural hair care brand, Carol’s Daughter. For Coco, hairstyles, whether box braids, twists, or her natural curls, are more than fashion; they’re a powerful form of self-expression.

The WTA star was ecstatic about having the opportunity to represent a brand that mirrors her values and honors her cultural heritage. Recently, she appeared in another one of their captivating ad campaigns, where she opened up about what she loves most about her hair.

Yesterday, Carol’s Daughter posted a new video on their Instagram handle with the caption: “You want hair like @cocogauff? Let your curls spring back stronger after every wash with our NEW Goddess Strength Curl Restoration Bonding Treatment.”

In the vibrant clip, Gauff confidently flaunted a variety of stunning hairstyles, each one reflecting her dynamic personality. With a radiant smile, she shared, “What’s my favorite thing about my hair? The versatility. I can beat it, twist it, straighten it, I can serve any look.”

Coco’s words echoed empowerment and pride, as she went on to reveal her haircare secret: Carol’s Daughter’s new ‘Curl Restoration Concentrate’. “Every time, after every style. The only way to make my hair spring back stronger. Not just strong, strong like me. Goddess Strong,” she further declared.

Despite her recent drop to the 4th position in the world rankings after Jessica Pegula’s rise in Charleston, Coco ‘Cori’ Gauff remains determined. With the clay season underway, she eyes redemption at the Stuttgart Open. Can she bounce back strongly?
