The former tennis player has often emphasized the importance of self-love. After giving birth to her two daughters, 7-year-old Olympia and 1-year-old Adira, her body changed postpartum. Williams has been very open about accepting these changes and loving herself regardless. In an Instagram post last February, she opened up about this challenge.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion wrote, “Loving yourself is essential. I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life. Right now, I love that my body is not picture perfect.”
She continued, “I love that I smell like milk – that milk sustains @adiraohanian. I love getting to know a new version of my body. It is a change, but it’s a change that has been well worth it. So start this week knowing that you are loved, and that starts with you.”
The former tennis star often shares words of wisdom with her followers. Along with self-love, she has also stressed the importance of resilience—a quality that has helped her throughout her illustrious career.
Serena Williams shares the important mantra of ‘trying hard’
Serena Williams has faced pressure points at every turn of her career. One does not build a legacy this extensive without hard work and resilience. The 43-year-old tennis legend endured numerous trials and tribulations. She underwent knee surgery in 2003, which took nearly three years to fully heal. During that period, the former World No.1 dropped out of the top 100. But she made a stunning comeback, claiming the 2008 US Open title and going on a winning streak the following year, securing the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
After giving birth in 2017, Williams battled postpartum depression. Despite her struggles, she returned to the court in 2018, making it to the US Open final. She continued to persevere and went on to claim another US Open trophy in 2022.
On February 1, 2025, Williams shared a video of herself applying WYN makeup, a brand she owns. In the video, she shared her secret to success, stating, “So that’s one thing that I do know is when I was on the tennis court and maybe I didn’t win that match, or maybe I found that someone was playing better than me [pauses]—on that day, of course [laughs]—but that didn’t mean that I couldn’t go back and try harder.”
Further addressing her fans, she said, “Resilience also shows in how you show up every day. It doesn’t have to be a professional athlete. It could be a mom. Like, it shows a lot of resilience and like you’re strong and real to just show up every day for yourself or for your family or whatever that is.”
Even after stepping away from professional tennis, Williams continues to inspire with her unwavering resilience and wisdom. Do you resonate with her message of self-love?
