Is Zion Williamson Playing Tonight vs Spurs? Pelicans Latest Injury Report Amid Major Weight Loss Revelation

It seems like the Zion Williamson saga isn’t gonna end anytime soon. The 2019 No. 1 draft pick has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in his career. The talent has never been in doubt—it’s just his inability to stay fit throughout the season for the New Orleans Pelicans that’s been a cause of concern for Wille Green.

The Pelicans have been having a season from hell, sitting 14th in the West with a 14-43 record. Up next for them is the 12th-placed San Antonio Spurs, struggling themselves with a 24-31 record. The Pelicans dominated the first of the two-game slate with a 114-96 win at the Smoothie King Center. This was mostly down to Zion’s monstrous 22-point 9-rebound performance against Victor Wembanyama and Co.

Ever since his return to the side, Zion Williamson’s been on fire. He’s missed 27 games this season due to a multitude of reasons but has still managed to average 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game while shooting with a 55.2 FG%. His performance against the Spurs a couple of days ago shows what he can do when fully fit. Luckily for the Pelicans fans, he’s set to play against them at the Frost Bank Center.

As for the rest of the squad, Willie Green is missing some key players. Former all-star guard Dejounte Murray suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during their 118-116 loss against champions the Celtics and is set to be out for the rest of the season. Forward Herb Jones has the same fate after being diagnosed with a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Their VP of basketball operations, David Griffin, has ruled him out for the rest of the season as well. As for SG Brandon Boston, he’s dealing with an ankle injury that also renders him unavailable for the Spurs matchup.

Zion Williamson’s weight loss is considered a miracle

He stands at 6’6 and is known for using his physicality and aggression for his benefit. Ever since the Pelicans drafted him in 2019, his weight has become a huge talking point up and down the association. But it came to a limit for Zion Williamson, as he’s been overweight pretty much throughout his career.

His weight loss is not an overnight revelation—for Zion, it’s a chance to get his professional and personal life back to what everyone predicted of the kid. His knee injury in his rookie season might’ve been a wake-up call that changed the course of his career. You don’t want to be the poster boy of wasted potential in the NBA and deal with the public scrutiny that comes with it.

It was mainly down to Zanos’ family and close team members that drove him to redemption. This not only brought about demonic performances for the 24-year-old but also gave him the mental clarity and increased confidence he needed to make it one of the greatest in the majors.

Zion Williamson’s impact and necessity to the Pelicans’ results need no touching. He is their star player, and coach Green will be looking forward to his contributions for whatever’s left of the current season, starting with their match against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night.
