Minnesota Timberwolves talisman Anthony Edwards is officially out for tonight’s game against the Wizards—an illness is keeping him sidelined, and head coach Chris Finch confirmed it, pregame. Tough break for the Wolves, especially since this is the first game Edwards has missed all season. They’re right in the mix for that top spot in the West, and losing him—even for a night—is a big blow.
And it’s not just that he’s out; it’s when he’s out. Edwards has been on fire lately, averaging 31.2 points over his last 10 games. He was listed as questionable earlier, so there was some hope he might suit up, but now? No go. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the Wolves will also be without Julius Randle (groin), so yeah, not ideal. The good news? Mike Conley (thumb) and Terrence Shannon Jr. (foot) are both good to go.
So, with both Edwards and Randle out, it looks like Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker will slide into the starting lineup. Finch made a point to shout out some of the younger guys—Jaylen Clark, Luka Garza, and Rob Dillingham—who should see a lot more action tonight. And hey, with the Wizards struggling this season, it might be the perfect game for these guys to step up.
