It’s time for the NFL Scouting combine at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Combine began on Thursday, February 27, and will end on Sunday, March 2. All the NFL teams and their agents are in the city, trying to gauge the best player for their sides. Suddenly, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was in the discussion for unexpected and embarrassing reasons.
Patrick Mahomes has been here before. Not on the draft stage, not in the Super Bowl spotlight—no, this was different. This was the NFL Combine, where years ago, he ran a 40-yard dash that no one thought much of at the time. But in the age of social media, nothing stays buried forever.
On the first day of the combine, Mahomes tweeted, “As the combine starts this week! All I ask is that @nflnetwork doesn’t use my 40 overlay anymore ” Well, not only the respect for privacy fell on deaf ears, but the quarterback was brutally trolled. NFL shared a video with the caption “Poor @PatrickMahomes” What did the video show?

In the video, the league showed simulated graphics of Patrick Mahomes running with the fastest 40 yard dash runner in the combine on day 1, Tennessee Volunteers LB James Pearce Jr. While the college athlete took 4:47 seconds, the NFL star paced behind at 4:80 seconds. One analyst even remarked, “Why are we doing Mahomes like this? Just because he tweeted that out.” The other analyst confirmed, “I think, partially, yeah.”
Stay tuned. This story is developing.
