The new FBI Director, Kash Patel, has started off his stint with a bang. According to sources, the Trump appointee, on his first teleconference call with the fifty-five FBI field offices nationwide, suggested that the Bureau could collaborate with the UFC, led by President Donald Trump’s close friend and UFC head honcho Dana White.
Reports suggest that Patel floated this idea to try and enhance FBI personnel’s fitness and, presumably, self-defense capabilities. Of course, this is not official FBI policy yet and even if it is something the organization decides to do, it would be premature to speculate on the exact contours of how it would work. But here is our list of the fighters who could help train FBI officers and what those mixed martial artists could teach the agents.
1. Jon Jones (Heavyweight) – Tactical Wrestling & Self-Defense
Jones’ wrestling and fight IQ make him a perfect choice for teaching law enforcement takedown techniques and defensive strategies in close-quarters combat. The heavyweight champ, of course, is also one of the most dynamic and creative strikers in the history of the sport.

Throughout his 16-plus-year career, the consensus MMA GOAT has regularly displayed a barrage of spinning back elbows and oblique kicks to great impact against opponents like Daniel Cormier, Glover Teixeira, and Alexander Gustafsson. It is safe to say that ‘Bones’ can share some unorthodox but effective striking techniques with FBI personnel, too.
2. Islam Makhachev (Lightweight) – Sambo & Control Tactics
A master of Russian Sambo, Islam Makhachev can teach FBI agents how to neutralize opponents using body control, clinch work, and submissions—perfect for suspect apprehension. His tactical approach to fighting and ability to size up his opponents quickly is also world-class and could benefit agents.
3. Ilia Topuria (Featherweight) – Explosiveness & Combat Efficiency
Topuria’s striking-grappling combination ensures he can teach quick and effective techniques that don’t require prolonged engagements—ideal for high-risk law enforcement situations. In addition, since the Spanish-Georgian superstar is 5’7″ and usually fights opponents taller than him, he could also show them how to deal with bigger opponents.
4. Merab Dvalishvili (Bantamweight) – Relentless Cardio & Takedown Defense
Merab Dvalishvili’s non-stop pace and wrestling-heavy style would help agents develop the ability to take down or escape from opponents in real-world scenarios. Not to mention his gas tank is the best in the game, and he could give tips and tricks about how agents could increase their endurance and stamina in case they get into prolonged melees with one or more suspects.
5. Max Holloway (Featherweight) – Striking & Tactical Movement
Max Holloway’s world-class striking and footwork could help agents improve their hand-to-hand combat, movement, and ability to control engagements. Moreover, the former featherweight champion holds the distinction of being one of the best boxers in the promotion and can help the agents implement this skill quite well.
6. Dustin Poirier (Lightweight) – Dirty Boxing & Close-Quarters Combat
A master at dirty boxing, Dustin Poirier can teach FBI agents how to use short-range striking, clinch control, and counterattacks in confined spaces. ‘The Diamond’s dynamic boxing skills have translated very well to MMA, and his approach could help make sure agents are protected if a suspect grabs them or tries to restrain them.
7. Alex Pereira (Light Heavyweight) – Power Striking & KO Techniques
Alex Pereira’s elite kickboxing can help agents learn efficient striking techniques to incapacitate a threat in high-stakes situations. A master of hit and don’t get hit with an excellent understanding of range, ‘Poatan’ could teach them how to land hard shots while making sure agents are able to protect themselves adequately.

Moreover, the light heavyweight champion’s elite shin kicks are a sight to behold and have come in handy to cripple his opponents for good measure.
8. Charles Oliveira (Lightweight) – Jiu-Jitsu & Submission Control
Charles Oliveira’s high-level BJJ skills make him ideal for teaching FBI agents submission holds, chokes, and ground control to neutralize opponents without excessive force. His aggressive BJJ style could help agents learn how to take the suspect to the ground and avoid getting in a fistfight at all.

The Brazilian is the most prolific finisher in the history of the sport with 20 finishes to his name. So, when we tell you that the former lightweight champion is the ‘Thanos’ of eradicators, we are not kidding.
9. Colby Covington (Welterweight) – Smothering Wrestling & Cage Control
Colby Covington’s pressure-heavy wrestling and ability to break opponents with endless cardio would be useful for law enforcement officers in maintaining physical dominance. His chain-wrestling style could, in fact, translate well to apprehending unruly and energetic suspects. ‘Chaos’ could teach FBI agents how to keep relentless pressure on suspects until they are incapacitated.
10. Sean Strickland (Middleweight) – Pressure Fighting & Mental Toughness
Sean Strickland’s relentless pressure, solid boxing, and ability to take damage would make him an excellent instructor for FBI agents on staying composed under physical confrontation. His Philly Shell defense is pretty stellar too, which could help FBI personnel avoid taking hits if they find themselves in a hand-to-hand combat situation. What do you think about Kash Patel’s idea about the FBI collaborating with the UFC?
