Gervonta Davis All In for the ‘Biggest Fight in the World’, Endorsed by Mike Tyson

Did Gervonta Davis just accept the fight that everyone’s been waiting for? The one Shakur Stevenson has been chasing for over a year? It certainly seems like he did. Just hours before Stevenson announced he was moving on to another opponent if the Tank fight fails, Davis made a surprising announcement that could send Shakur straight to cloud nine. Despite Tank’s previous dismissals of the matchup, questioning Stevenson’s credibility, no one really expected this fight to actually materialize. Yet, here we are—it feels almost like a miracle.

Yesterday, BOXING & BBQ shared an intriguing clip from Gervonta Davis’ interview with NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith on ESPN. During the conversation, they discussed a wide range of topics, including why Davis is targeting Lamont Roach Jr., his thoughts on where he stands in his career, and whether he might truly walk away from the sport at the end of the year. However, what really caught the attention of boxing fans was the update Davis gave on potential future opponents—three names that have been on everyone’s dream list of Tank opponents.

Gervonta Davis finally opens the door for negotiations

The NBA analyst brought up some of the most talked-about potential opponents for the WBA Lightweight champion, all of whom have been on the lips of boxing fans. He mentioned a possible rematch with Ryan Garcia at a higher weight, who’s also eager to face Tank once he’s back in the game; Vasyl Lomachenko, a seasoned vet, who should be on Davis’ radar aleardy; and, of course, Shakur Stevenson, the WBC champion, who most feel poses the biggest threat to Gervonta Davis because of his defensive prowess and elusive fighting style.

Stephen A. Smith, putting forth all three names, then asked Davis for his take on these potential matchups, assuming he comes out victorious in his upcoming fight on March 1st, which most expect him to. He asked the undefeated champion who he sees himself facing next in a “big fight” or “marquee matchup.”

Gervonta Davis didn’t miss a beat, acknowledging that all the fighters named are worthy challengers. The Baltimore native responded, “To be honest, all of them guys.” He went on to say that he wasn’t fixated on any one name and that if any of those opponents came to the table, “that’s good for me.”

Tank later explained that he sees each of those fights as a major milestone for his career and is open to facing them down the road. “Hopefully, in the future, we get them,” the WBA Lightweight Champion added, implying that while the cards aren’t on the table just yet, he’s optimistic that he’ll eventually share the ring with all these top-tier opponents.

It looks like Gervonta Davis has finally made up his mind about stepping into the ring for the long-awaited fight. But it turns out Mike Tyson had already called this one. The boxing legend had his finger on the pulse, and he didn’t just see the fight coming—he’d already picked his winner.

Mike Tyson confident in his choices

While Gervonta Davis has been the talk of the town in the boxing world, all eyes are also on Shakur Stevenson as fans eagerly anticipate who he’ll face next. After successfully defending his WBC World Lightweight title against Josh Padley last week, Stevenson has been itching for a showdown with Tank. With rumors swirling about Davis’ potential retirement, the 23-0 boxer has been growing increasingly frustrated at the 30-year-old’s reluctance to make the fight happen.

In an interview with Dev Sahni from Queensberry Promotions, Stevenson expressed his frustration: “I remember watching interviews where he says he’s going to come get me, and I am on his list. And then he’s like, ‘What has Shakur done for boxing? Who is he…?’ He seems very bipolar.” He then went on to call their potential bout “the biggest fight in the world” if it ever happens.

Just a few months before that, while speaking with Mase and Cam’ron Giles on their podcast ‘It Is What It Is’, Mike Tyson weighed in on the potential fight, stating that Davis’ aggressive fighting style would be the perfect test for Stevenson and the style difference would bring out the best in him. “Wow, that’s a good fight. I like to go with Tank. Everyone’s gonna go with Tank, but it would be a very interesting fight. Tank is just a monster right now,” Tyson predicted confidently.

But ‘The Kid Dynamite’ didn’t count Stevenson out either. On the same podcast, he added, “Shakur takes a good shot; he’s a specialist. That’s why there are some fights that he doesn’t look good in because he’s so superior. It’s boring watching sometimes, but he knows what he’s doing. To bring out the best in Shakur, you gotta pressure him like Tank, and we’ll see a great fight.”

So, the question remains: Will 2025 bring us the fight that everyone has been waiting for? If Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson finally face off, who do you think will come out on top?
