LSU Mourn Death of 19-Year-Old Track and Field Star as Olivia Dunne & Co Pay Classy Tribute

Heartbreak has hit Baton Rouge once more! The LSU Athletics community is reeling from a devastating loss, one that no one saw coming, one that no one was prepared for. Dillon Reidenauer, a promising young pole vaulter with a bright future ahead, is gone. And just like that, a life full of talent, ambition, and dreams was cut short. Wednesday night started like any other, but by the time it ended, tragedy had already struck.

Dillon, a freshman at LSU, was involved in a fatal traffic incident that sent shockwaves through the university and beyond. The news about her death resulted in inconsolable feelings for both her teammates, including Olivia Dunne. At 19 years old, the track and field star embodied more than athletic talent, and now that future has been stolen.

The LSU track and field team took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news. “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of freshman Dillon Reidenauer.” The authorities confirmed that Reidenauer was involved in a fatal car accident. The incident happened at the intersection of Nicholson Drive and South Quad Drive.

The car driver navigated southbound on Nicholson Drive around 9:07 pm before attempting to execute a left turn onto South Quad Drive. At that time, a motorcycle moving north on Nicholson Drive crashed into the vehicle, which resulted in terrible outcomes. Devastating! A promising life, filled with ambition and dreams, was cut short far too soon.

Gymnastics sensation Olivia Dunne, together with other LSU athletes, took to social media to express their sorrow. Dunne shared a post by LSU Gymnastics on her Instagram stories that highlighted, “Competing for Dillon tonight .” It wasn’t just about the sport anymore but love for a beloved teammate. Dillon had spent her childhood years in the Louisiana town of Abita Springs before enrolling at LSU.

A star at Fontainebleau High School, she was placed second during the LHSAA State Championships as their best high school pole vaulter. As the team navigates through this tragedy, it’s extending its support to all the people who are affected by this sudden tragedy.

More than an athlete: Remembering Dillon Reidenauer’s unbreakable spirit

For years, people have understood that student-athlete life requires juggling academic responsibilities alongside training commitments and personal moments. But Dillon Reidenauer was doing it all. Beyond the track, she had her sights set on a future in interior design. Another passion she was ready to chase!

LSU track and field coach Dennis Shaver shared his deep respect for Dillon and how much she meant to the team. He said, “We will do everything we can to make sure our student-athletes and staff have the resources they need to process the grief of this terrible loss.” LSU Athletics stands completely behind its players to assist when athletes need help processing their grief.

The department dedicates itself to creating opportunities for grief assistance and crisis management for all members of the community. Every member of LSU is uniting to remember Dillon. Well, she wasn’t just a teammate. She was a family! LSU athletic director Elicia Ocmond shared her thoughts, saying, “There are a lot of kids upset.” “If you asked the teachers, they would tell you that she was a sweet, kind kid,” Ocmond added.

And that’s what makes this even more heartbreaking. Dillon wasn’t just known for her talent. She was cherished for her kindness and the way she made those around her feel valued. These moments act as an important lesson for us to cherish each second while providing mutual support during difficult times.
