In a highly anticipated SEC matchup at Rupp Arena, Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers took a 15-point lead into halftime against the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats. But the lights weren’t on National Player of the Year (NPOY) candidate of the Tigers Johni Broome. Throughout the first half, Broome was all over the floor. However, his performance in the first twenty minutes was astonishingly poor for a player of his caliber.
The star forward only scored one point the entire first half, which has many fans sounding off on social media about his dominance and Auburn’s dependence on their NPOY candidate.
Fans flocked to X to complain as the halftime buzzer sounded; fans rushed to X to express their disbelief in Broome’s disappointing performance. One simple post summed it up well, as one fan wrote, “Auburn is up 15 at halftime at Kentucky and its national player of the year candidate has 1 point.” Fans failed to comprehend the irony of Auburn holding a huge lead despite Broome’s struggles, as he’s been the focal point of Auburn’s successes this season.
