The USWNT has lost the SheBelieves Cup tournament, and many things have changed for the team. The head coach, Emma Hayes, has admitted to coming back after the heartbreaking loss; it was the US team’s 2nd loss after the inception of the tournament. But as the cup has ended and USWNT is planning for upcoming events on the schedule, USWNT star player Naomi Girma has sent a heartfelt message to her late friend.
The US team’s star player has dropped a special tribute to late friend and teammate Katie Meyer through an Instagram story. Three years after Katie’s death, Girma posted a friend’s old video of her happily enjoying some moments. The overlay text of the story goes like this: “3 years in heaven . Missing you every day .”
Katie Meyer died in March 2022. Two years ago, as she announced that she would be dedicating the FIFA Women’s World Cup to her beloved friend, Girma said. “There are friends, and then there are true friends. Katie Meyer was a true friend in every sense of the word. If you knew her, then I’ll never be able to do her justice. If you didn’t know her, then I’ll just have to try my best.” At the time, Girma also described Meyer as, “The first person you’d turn to when you needed to talk about yours. And the last person you’d think would take her own life”
