Ex-Patriots Star Reveals How Bill Belichick Destroyed Tom Brady After an Embarrassing Loss to Chiefs

Bill Belichick has never been the guy for motivational speeches or dramatic locker-room moments. You won’t catch him giving a Friday Night Lightsclear eyes, full hearts” speech, and he definitely isn’t out here handing out gold stars for effort. His style? More like that teacher who doesn’t care if you’re the smartest kid in class—miss one question, and he’s circling it in red ink.

That’s how he built the Patriots dynasty. No one got a pass. Not rookies, not pro bowlers, and not even Tom Brady. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to the 2014 season. The Patriots were playing the Chiefs in the regular season. The Chiefs crushed them like the Patriots were some kind of team that just got hit with the Madden curse in real life. And Brady? Nah, he didn’t have a good game, and let’s just say Belichick didn’t spare him later—and the former Patriots’ WR, Brandon Bolden, knows it very well.

Recently Bolden appeared on the Raw Room and talked about how Belichick called out Brady in the film room after his poor performance against the Chiefs. “That year, we went to play in Seattle, we played the Chiefs,” he started. “The Chiefs put a 40-piece on us. Tom ain’t have a good game, none of us did, but we got in there, lights went off. Bill went in, started the film, stopped the film, talked shit. Started the film, stopped the film, talked more shit. Started the film, Tom threw a pick, stopped it, and (said) ‘We supposed to have the best f*****g QB in the league and he plays like this.”

No, not a typo. Belichick literally said this about Brady in the film room. It was the week 4 game in that season and Brady struggled the whole night. You can just say the former Patriots head coach was frustrated with his QB. And Brady? Well, according to Bolden, he looked left and right on his shoulder and “He reached down, grab shit, and walked smoothly out of the f*****g meeting.”

Now, picture this: Bolden was sitting at a perfect place where he could see Brady grabbing his phone in frustration and started scrolling. Yeah, you guessed that right, the ex-Patriots’ WR approached the Brady and asked, “Aye, 12, you straight?” Brady couldn’t help himself, just nodded, and said, “Oh, yeah, I’m good.” That’s it. The result?

Brady didn’t took that lightly, and it’s pretty much certain that he learned from that setback. After all, the head coach and the QB went on to win the Super Bowl of the 2014 season. However, we just can’t forget that week 4 game between the New England team and the Kansas City team.

The loss that led Tom Brady to win the Super Bowl

Patriots’ Week 4 showdown in 2014—what went down? Simple: KC ran all over them, and for a hot minute, people actually thought the dynasty was dead. The Chiefs dominated them throughout the game. In the first half, the KC established control early as the RB Jamaal Charles racked up two solid touchdowns. Then came the second half when the QB Alex Smith connected with Travis Kelce for another touchdown.

And how can we forget Brady’s gameplay? That was one of those nights where nothing clicked for Brady. The guy completed 14 out of 23 yards for just 159 yards and notched up a touchdown, with 2 ugly picks. Besides, the Chiefs’ defense had him running for his life, sacking him three times and even forcing a fumble.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Bill Belichick decided he’d seen enough and benched him for rookie Jimmy Garoppolo. The result? A brutal 41-14 loss to KC. Now, imaging being in the film room later—YIKES! Because, let’s be real—that was not just any loss. That defeat led to widespread media scrutiny.

But at the end of the day, Belichick and Brady used that setback as a motivation, and eventually won the Super Bowl. Talk about an endgame level comeback.
