Not all comebacks have a smooth landing in MLB, and not every door swings open right away. Despite the odds, a 2X All-Star veteran pitcher is still holding out hope for another shot.
The 33-year-old right-hander, Julio Teheran, is in a defining moment after his brief stint with the New York Mets. His return to the majors might come out as an uphill battle, but he hasn’t run out of options yet. Francys Romero revealed on X that Teheran has received minor league offers from MLB teams, along with interest from professional clubs in Taiwan. But he has yet to make a decision on his next move.
Teheran, who once led the Atlanta Braves’ rotation and earned All-Star honors in 2014 and 2016, the past couple of years haven’t been stable for him. He has hopped around a bit before landing in Queens. He also made stops in Detroit, San Diego, and Milwaukee.
Teheran’s most recent MLB outing wasn’t what he anticipated. He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs in his sole appearance for the New York Mets. A few days later, he was designated for assignment. This left his career hanging in balance.
Per source, Julio Teheran has received offers from MLB teams (minor league deal) and professional baseball in Taiwan, but he has not made a decision regarding his next move.

Now the question lingers: what next? Will he take the minor league route and fight his way back to the majors? Or will he follow in the footsteps of many former big-league pitchers who found success overseas?
Looking at both sides, staying in the U.S., even on a minor league deal, would keep Teheran’s MLB dreams alive. On the other hand, a move to Taiwan could offer financial security, stability, and a fresh start. It’s indeed a tough decision to make because it could define the upcoming chapter of his career.
Meanwhile, the Mets are making sure to do better than ever in 2025 with more powerful names than before.
Jośe Siri proving his offensive value to the Mets
The Mets didn’t exclusively bring in José Siri for his bat. But right now, that part of his game is turning heads. When the Mets traded for Jośe Siri, they knew they were getting a prominent defender, a center fielder who could track down anything that hit his way. What they didn’t see coming was for him to lead baseball in home runs during spring training. Or let’s say, at least not this early. Siri displayed flashes of offensive prowess with 3 homers in 5 Grapefruit League games. This is something the Mets would love to tap into.
Manager Carlos Mendoza said, “There’s potential there” after Siri launched a three-run homer off Liam Hendriks in a game with the Red Sox in opposition. He has hit 43 home runs in the previous two seasons. The real challenge is to make more contact and cut down on strikeouts. And that’s what the Mets want to help him with.
Last MLB season with the Rays, Siri hit .187 with a .620 OPS, battling to get on base with consistency. But Mendoza believes that with the accurate approach: better pitch choice, managing the strike zone, and swinging at the right pitches. Siri could be a real weapon in an already steady lineup.
Mendoza stated, “For him, I think understanding the role that he has on this team offensively is key.”. “He’s going to have some really good hitters behind him. Getting on base, controlling the strike zone, swinging at good pitches—that’s what we need.”
The trade caught Siri off guard as he didn’t expect to be moved. Now, he found himself replacing Harrison Bader in the center field, and all he wants is to prove that he’s more than just a glove-first player.
In a way, Siri’s situation isn’t much different from Julio Teheran. Both of them are at a crossroads, wanting to prove that they’ve got more to offer. While Teheran decides his next move, Siri is already on his move, with his bat this time.
