The historic event, which started back in 1979, is around the corner. The event features some of the top names from the golfing world. Well, if you have forgotten, then this was the event that started the great victory run for the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in 2024. After closing a bogey-free round of 66, the golfer clinched the title with a five-stroke lead, and the rest is history.
After three signature events, The Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and The Genesis Invitational. The Arnold Palmer Invitational is the fourth of the season, offering an elevated golf-viewing experience for the fans. Earlier, with The Sentry, Hideki Matsuyama set the tone, scoring the record-setting 35-under for his 11th PGA Tour victory. While Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg had fresh victories in the latter two. Now, with the fourth, the impressive roster of the players battling with the increased difficulty of the course will be a true delight to watch for the fans. Additionally, the venue will be a great challenge to overcome for the new winner.
Where will the Arnold Palmer Invitational tee off?
The historic event takes place at the historic course of Bay Hill, which was inaugurated in 1961. However, it has been associated with the Arnold Palmer Invitational since Bob Byman beat Jon Schroeder in 1979. The Bay Hill is a similar course offering a Floridian layout with increased difficulty. With greens slightly raised, making it difficult to stay away from bunkers, thick lush rough and water, it will be a challenge to overcome. Interestingly, it was one of the first golf courses in the world to plan Tifway Bermuda Grass. The par-72, 7,466-yard course is going to be a tough one to crack for the $20 million prize pot ($4 million winner share).
The 18 holes of the course are divided into Champion and Challenger, which are rated 75.2, indicating that staying bogey-free would be a challenge for the golfers who are aiming for the title. Back in the days, it was designed by Dick Wilson, an American golf course architect. He has designed more than 60 courses. On the other hand, the Charger course designed by Bob Simmons, having a par 36, has a 36 course rating.
The record low at the course is still owned by Payne Stewart, 264 strokes from 1987. However, with the top names featuring this edition, will there be a record?
Players’ roster at the Arnold Palmer Invitational
The event, teeing off on March 6, will offer a perfect golf experience to the fans. With the top names competing and some who were missing from the previous events this season, this is definitely not a miss for the golf world. At the top, the World No. 1, Scheffler, will be aiming to redeem a similar feat as of 2024. Until now, the golfer has been close to victory but couldn’t secure one. He recorded T9 at the AT&T Pebble Beach, T25 WM Phoenix Open, and T3 at the Genesis Invitational.
Along with him, the recent two signature event winners, i.e., McIlroy and Aberg, will be showcasing their great form. McIlroy, after winning at the Pebble Beach, struggled at Torrey Pines after the second round. However, he will be aiming to redeem himself. Following the top three, Xander Schauffele is also making his comeback after a long break due to a rib injury. After his two major wins in 2024, he wasn’t in the best flow with his performance at the Sentry, where he recorded a T30 finish. But with his recovery, he took extra time to overcome the injury and get back on his performance streak for the 2025 schedule.
Further, the list has Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, Keegan Bradley, Collin Morikawa, and others. The event is definitely going to be adrenaline-filled, with top names making their way back. Who do you think will take the title this year?
