Justin Thomas is busy this season, in the truest sense of the word. He participated in 5 events this year, reaching his peak at 2 at The American Express. Despite a recent tragedy that struck his family, the passing away of his grandma, the young golfer is all about supporting and engaging his friends on and off the course. Well, you don’t know? Here are a few instances.
Gary Woodland revealed that Thomas was one of the first people to know about his diagnosis. After Woodland won the PGA Tour Courage Award, Thomas congratulated him: “Amazing stuff. @garywoodland. Extremely deserving!” The second player happens to be Max Homa, who talked about his deep friendship with Thomas with extreme fondness. “It’s been nice having Justin because it’s a very individual sport, and I want to beat Justin’s brains in every week, and I know he does back to me. But it’s very cool to have somebody I can talk to about just how hard this game is.”
The next in line? It’s none other than Xander Schauffele. Their appreciation for each other goes way back, but having witnessed Schauffele eager and curious to swing on the greens again after his injury, every appearance of the star golfer is a sight to behold. And not just for the fans, but also for Justin Thomas. Schauffele was recently seen on the TGL greens.
Thomas posted a clip of Schauffele, hitting the ball, saying, “That’s an easy, baby. It’s not Christmas in Florida, boys. Naah, I don’t think it is.” The entire clip also included Schauffele’s impression of Adam Scott, adding, “My name’s Adam Scott, and I am extremely good-looking, mate. Everything I do is perfection. Alright, baby, we are dancing now.” But Thomas enjoyed the first half and posted a story. The caption reads, “So glad that the world is finally starting to see that @xanderschauffele is a real life talking energizer bunny ”
In case you are unaware, Schauffele is likely to make his comeback at Arnold Palmer Invitational after having suffered time away from the greens because of a rib injury. Excited about it, Schauffele said, “I feel good and looking forward to getting over to Bay Hill.” Needless to say, we are not the only ones waiting for him.
Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele outside the greens
Justin Thomas maintains a good relationship with his fellow golfers. However, his friendship with Xander Schauffele is full of cheeky moments. It started a long time ago, but take a look at Thomas’ relatable moment after Schauffele won at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He sounded just as fascinated with the golfer as he seems now. “…As soon as I saw him, I wanted to see it … it’s really cool. Obviously, I’m very jealous of anybody who’s won any other major or tournaments that I haven’t, but that might have been the most jealous of someone I’ve been.” He added that the “gold medal is so sick; it’s so cool; it’s so unique.”
And it’s not just Thomas who talks about their fiery friendship and just as fiery rivalry on the greens. Back at the 2020 Sentry, and going into the final round of the tour, Schauffele mentioned that both of them are pretty competitive. “He talks openly about how he hates to lose. I don’t know anyone else more competitive than I am. He’d probably argue the same way. We both want it and, fortunately, we’re good friends and familiar with each other and we know each other’s games.”
Going into 2025, their friendship seems just as strong. It’s no wonder fans are sure Schauffele must be supporting Thomas during this tough time in his personal life. On that note, here’s us wishing them good luck for their friendship.
