31 NFL Franchises Given Major DK Metcalf Trade Condition as Disgruntled Seahawks Receiver Demands Big Money Contract

Things are moving fast in Seattle this offseason. Just 24 hours after their veteran receiver DK Metcalf requested a trade. The Seahawks have already released their asking price. Looks like they were just waiting for Metcalf to drop in his trade request to reveal their perspective on a possible trade. Possible? Actually, the Seahawks’ asking price for Metcalf looks a bit ambitious, you could say. And not only the Seahawks, Metcalf’s expectations are also a bit over the roof for a few factors.

Coming off a down year after producing two consecutive 1,000+ yard seasons, Metcalf couldn’t reach those heights last year. Hauling in just 66 receptions for 992 yards and 7 TDs, Metcalf was good but not that great. Maybe that’s why the Seahawks trade expectations for their star receiver aren’t justified. As per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Seahawks are looking for a first and third round pick for him. See that package looks good if you consider Metcalf’s age. Still only 27, he has a lot of room to grow.

And make no mistake, in his 6 seasons with the Seahawks, Metcalf has never had a year less than 900 yards. So, maybe that’s why the Seahawks are expecting not only a first but also a third-round pick to trade him. You know, surprisingly, the Seahawks already had that kind of offer at least close to it before he even requested a trade. Corbin K. Smith of Emerald City Spectrum reported a few days ago that the Packers were willing to send a high pick and a receiver for Metcalf.

So, you never know, maybe it would be them again knocking on Seattle’s doors to ask for Metcalf. However, the only hurdle to this trade will probably be his contract. Metcalf still has a year left on his $72M contract signed in 2022. And not only that, he also carries a $31.8M cap space in 2025. Those are the red flags for teams expecting to trade for Metcalf and also Seattle cashing in on him. But what if I say that’s not the only thing to worry about this trade. The 2-time Pro Bowler rates himself pretty high, so he wants his new deal to be close among the likes of Tyreek Hill and Brandon Aiyuk.

DK Metcalf wants to be among the highest-paid receivers in the league

See, no doubt, Metcalf is a phenomenal player. Doesn’t have any injury problems, still only 2,7 and also a massively successful first 6 years in the league. Picked by the Seahawks as 64th overall in 2019, Metcalf has over 430 receptions and 6,324 receiving yards. And of course, don’t forget his 48 TDs, which show his affinity for the red zone, as a receiver should have. With that being said, Metcalf is looking for a substantial raise on his expiring Seahawks contract. Right now he earns $24M a season, which puts him outside of the NFL’s top-10 highest paid receivers. So, Metcalf is now looking to enter the top 5 of that list while expecting a $30M a season contract.

This will put in the ballpark of Miami’s Tyreek Hill and the 49ers Brandon Aiyuk. However, the concern is who is going to churn out that kind of money for Metcalf. The Athletic feels the Raiders could be a possible destination if they are willing to make a move. Well, this could gain some traction considering Metcalf had already played under Pete Carroll. And the prospect of reuniting with him could be alluring to say the least. Of course, the Raiders will not dare to trade the No.6 pick for a receiver considering they don’t yet have a QB yet.

However, they could send a slew of second and third round picks to get Seattle’s attention. As for Metcalf’s wishes of a $30M a season contract. They could also do so with less guaranteed money. But right now everything is just ifs and buts. Nothing is concrete. And anything could happen before next season arrives. So, let’s see what comes out of this DK Metcalf saga. Whatever does happen, you could at least expect the rumor mill to churn a lot for this one.
