Blue Bay 2025: Will Cloudy Weather Ruin Play at $2.5M Event?

Blue Bay officially took off today. It’s not just about skill at the $2.5 million event, because the weather has a say too this time. Will it help or hinder the field Round 1 has finished with the American golfer Auston Kim leading the leaderboard with a score of 68 along with A Lim Kim and Ayaka Furue. Now, let’s see what weather for the round 2 looks like.

Day 2 looks like a mixed bag, so pack both an umbrella and sunscreen! Expect a warm, breezy round with temps hitting 32°C—but with humidity, it’ll feel like 37°C. Plus, rain is almost a sure thing (91% chance), so be ready for on-and-off showers. Stay cool and stay dry out there. Wind conditions will be moderate, blowing from the east at 22km/h and gusting up to 52 km/h. This weather’s a wild card – expect some challenges with ball flight and course conditions. And don’t be fooled by the rain—when the sun’s out, that UV index of 8 means serious heat. Stay shaded and sun-screened.

Will it get better during the evening? A little, yes. According to AccuWeather, the temperatures will come to a low of 26°C, with a RealFeel of 30°C. You can expect occasional rain to continue, making for a mostly cloudy and warm atmosphere. The probability of precipitation will once again stay significant at 75%, with total rainfall expected to reach 6.0 mm over about 2.5 hours.

Golfers better have their rain gear ready—wet conditions could force some strategic adjustments. Delays? Definitely possible. But hey, at least it might feel cozy when you finally get into your warm bed at night! Now, let’s dive into how Round 1 of Blue Bay 2025 played out.

Blue Bay and the Round 1 highlights

Before we take a look at the major names at this 2025 event, take a glimpse at the performance of Auston Kim. With a score of -4, the 23-year-old golfer is the lone player with a bogey-free round after 18 holes. Interestingly, this is also her first bogey-free round of the 2025 season, and, overall, 8th of her young career. Similarly, A Lim Kim and Ayaka Furue are tied with her at 4-under 68. The next in line is the world No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul, who had a streak of 4 straight birdies in a round. Interestingly, this was the third time this season that she had this streak.

How about others? Well, here’s a brief glimpse at them. Thitikul is not alone in her position and is tied with 8 other golfers with a score of -3. These are: Cassie Porter, Shuying Li, Mi Hyang Lee, Rio Takeda, Ina Yoon, Gaby Lopez, and Kristen Gilman. Whew, sounds like a tough competition! After these players and the competitive round, 12 more players were two shots off the leading names at T12. Though at T33, Ruoning Yin carded a par 72 in her home country.

Similarly, defending champion Bailey Tardy doesn’t seem to do very well right now. She is currently tied at T75 with 3-over and was 7 shots off the lead. So with the top performance and the weather looking like that, and the competition undoubtedly tough, who are you keeping your eyes on? Let us know!
