Kyle Busch Given a Reality Check About 9-YO Son by Dale Jr.’s Prodigy as He Prepares for His Big League Debut

Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Max Verstappen – what do these Formula 1 champions have in common? They all honed their skills in karting before reaching the pinnacle of motorsports. Karting is widely regarded as the proving ground for future racing stars, but what makes it such an effective training ground? Rising NASCAR sensation and Dale Jr.’s Xfinity Series driver Connor Zilisch believes he has the answer.

Zilisch, fresh off his Cup Series debut at the Circuit of The Americas, has been turning heads with his rapid rise through the ranks. He won the Xfinity race at COTA on Saturday and now, he’s sharing advice with veteran driver Kyle Busch on nurturing the next generation of talent. Specifically Busch’s son, Brexton. As Kyle prepares to face off against Brexton in the Legends League, Zilisch is offering a reality check on what it takes for young Brexton to make it big in the racing world.

Connor Zilisch’s advice for Kyle Busch

As Brexton Busch, the 9-year-old son of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, gains attention in the racing world, rising star Connor Zilisch is offering valuable advice on nurturing young talent. Zilisch emphasizes karting as a foundational platform for future racing success. “I do feel like it is the best thing to learn in as a kid and grow up doing,” Zilisch told Kevin Harvick, highlighting the benefits of starting early in karting. At the young age of eleven, Zilisch took home the US national karting title.

In order for Brexton to build a solid racing foundation, Connor Zilisch suggests that Kyle Busch allow him to encounter difficulties in karting. He told Kevin Harvick on an episode of Happy Hour: “I was talking to Kyle [Busch]… and he asked me ‘how did you even get to this point?’ I kinda told him that karting is the best platform to grow up racing in… Make sure you let Brexton struggle… Don’t let him dominate everything,” Zilisch suggested.

His racing exploits in Europe served as the foundation for this strategy. Connor Zilisch recalled earlier in the interview how lonely it would get at times being abroad and alone. “My dad was working a full-time job at the time and so was my mom,” Connor Zilisch said about his formative years. “They’d come for a week or two out of the three months I was there, but mostly I was on my own.”

He had to contend with fierce competition, but he learned to grow from it. “I went over there and wasn’t one of the best… I think that’s what made me so much better,” Zilisch shared. The 18-year-old’s perseverance paid off, and he eventually won the Mini Rok World Championship in Italy in 2017 against more than 160 other competitors from 33 countries.

Brexton has already shown impressive talent with numerous wins. These include the Saturday Millbridge Beginner Box championship, the Mountain Creek Beginner Box championship, and a Junior Sprint Golden Driller at Tulsa. However, Connor Zilisch’s advice suggests that allowing Brexton to face challenges is key to his long-term success. He also underscores the importance of understanding data in karting. “One of the biggest keys that I think has helped me so much is understanding data,” he explained.

NASCAR provides all of the teams with SMT (SportsMEDIA Technology) data. SMT displays all of the driver inputs and positional data for every vehicle on the track. MPH, engine RPM, throttle, and braking data are among the additional details offered. Text, graphics, and video animation are the formats in which the information is shown. It can help drivers become better racers.

Connor Zilisch’s guidance is a welcome reminder of the value of patience and tenacity as Kyle gets ready to compete against Brexton in the Legends League. He can lay a solid basis for his future in NASCAR by accepting difficulties and concentrating on fundamentals like karting and data analysis.

Brexton Busch’s racing rise: A family affair

Brexton recently amazed his family by demonstrating his skills during a practice session at Caraway Speedway. A “Battle of the Busch’s” between Brexton and Kyle was hinted at, suggesting a race between father and son soon. “Brex and l will be going head to head before ya know it,” Kyle shared on X. He followed it up with another post captioned, “Good day teaching the young grasshopper a thing or two. Take notes @brextonbusch.”

Kurt Busch also jumped in, stating that even he is in for the ‘Busch battle’ challenge. However, it was Samantha’s Instagram story that captured the attention of the fans. She expressed her awe, saying, “I’m a mix of completely proud and jaw-dropped that at 9 he does this.” Samantha’s pride reflects the family’s support for Brexton’s budding career. She is undoubtedly Brexton’s biggest fan, as every mother is for their child.

Samantha accompanies Brexton in all of his races and cheers him on from the sidelines the loudest. Her Instagram feed is filled with Brexton’s achievements, celebrating his progress and dedication to the sport. Whether it be Brexton’s Tulsa Shootout win or the Bandolero Bandits’ feature win, Samantha shares her son’s achievements with the world like the proud mother she is.

As Brexton continues to grow in the racing scene, he faces high expectations due to his family’s legacy. With Kyle and Kurt Busch’s influence, Brexton has a strong foundation on which to build. Will Brexton Busch live up to the family name and become a NASCAR legend in his own right? Let us know in the comments!
