The Dallas Cowboys had almost every position hit with injuries this time. Be it QB Dak Prescott or Micah Parsons in the linebacker’s role, everyone had their fair share of injuries in the 2024 season. And how can we forget the tight ends of Jerry Jones’s team?
While playing a game against Houston in November, Jake Ferguson suffered a concussion in the first quarter. This injury cut short his season, limiting him to just 14 games. In 2023, Ferguson had a superb Pro Bowl campaign. So, it was obvious for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys to expect more from him the next year. But his injury dashed all hopes to the ground.
So, agree or not? With this scenario, Jerry Jones’s Cowboys should look for another piece for the TE role this offseason. And as per the reports, they are on the hunt! Several names, like Juwan Johnson from the Saints or Harrison Bryant from the Raiders, have been coming up for America’s Team. Along with them, one more name crossed everyone’s mind: Trey Hendrickson. But with Hendrickson, there might be a problem now. According to Senior NFL insider Josina Anderson’s X update, “the current amount Trey Hendrickson is seeking is beyond what the Dallas #Cowboys would want to spend for a player of his level, based on what I’m hearing.”

Joe Burrow’s Bengals allowed Trey Hendrickson to look for a trade on Thursday. No doubt, he has been a game changer for the franchise. Since arriving in 2021, he’s been a nightmare for quarterbacks, racking up double-digit sacks in three of four seasons. In 2024, he took it to another level–leading the entire league with 17.5 sacks and earning his first All-Pro selection. So, who wouldn’t want him as their next tight end, even if it’s billionaire Jerry Jones?
But the question is: Given such a massive performance, why are the Bengals trading him? And even if Hendrickson is available, why might Jerry Jones not buy him? Well, here’s the problem – his contract doesn’t match his dominance. Hendrickson is set to make $18.6 million next season, ranking only 12th among defensive ends. That’s a bargain for a player of his caliber.
Now, he wants a new deal with long-term security. Hence, the Bengals have a tough decision ahead. They also need to extend Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, two of their biggest offensive weapons. Keeping all three won’t be easy for them. Similarly, it will cost too much on Jerry Jones’s wallet.
The Cowboys, too, have several star players like Micah Parsons lined up for contract extensions. So, obviously, bringing in another expensive player seems a bit impossible. Hence, that’s the reason why this time, Jerry Jones might pass Hendrickson’s option. However, when it comes to Joey Bosa, they might not be willing to let go of the situation.
Is Jerry Jones eyeing a jackpot?
For a long time, Joey Bosa’s availability in the market was seen as a jackpot for many NFL teams, including Jerry Jones’s Cowboys. And now that time has come. The Chargers have finally cut ties with Bosa. No surprise there. His massive contract and injury history made it a tough situation to hold onto.
Over the last three seasons, he has missed nearly half of the games—playing in 28 of a possible 50 regular-season matchups. But here’s the thing: when Bosa is on the field, he’s still a problem for his opponents. He might not be a top-tier pass rusher anymore, but can he be a strong No. 2 option? Absolutely. You won’t find much better. In just 23 games over the last two seasons, he has racked up 11.5 sacks, 58 pressures, and three forced fumbles.
Jerry Jones’s Cowboys need a pass rusher, and Bosa won’t cost a fortune. With teams focused on Micah Parsons, he’d have plenty of one-on-one opportunities to do what he does best—get after quarterbacks. Oh, and let’s not forget—he’s coming in with something to prove. The league gave up on him. Now, Dallas could have his back, as they are reportedly making a push to sign him.
