Angel City’s Mark Parsons Provides Update on Team’s Head Coach Situation as NWSL Season Nears

Preparations for the 2025 NWSL campaign continue to heat up. All 14 NWSL teams are making the most of their pre-season preparations as the campaign kicks off next week on March 14. Though it would be safe to say that Angel City FC is also doing the best they can, one should still worry about them, especially after hearing about their coaching situation from the club’s sporting director Mark Parsons.

To have a fresh recap of last season, ACFC fired their head coach Becki Tweed back in December. A poor end to their 2024 campaign forced the California-based club to make this decision. Forget the playoffs, with 7 wins, 6 draws, and 13 losses, they had finished their year in 12th place with a tally of just 24 points. Since then, Angel City has named Sam Liatey as the interim boss.

Though it doesn’t seem much of a problem to have him, fans at least expect some clarity on the coaching situation at least before the season kicks off. However, this is exactly where things get interesting. According to sporting director Mark Parsons, the club won’t be getting a full-time head coach at least until June.

“Sam [Laity] is our interim head coach, and we believe he will be our interim head coach until June. That’s the current reality of our head coach process,” said Parsons, as compiled by journalist Jeff Kassouf on X.
