Alright, the Toronto Maple Leafs fans. You know that feeling when your best friend says, “No matter what happens, I’ll always appreciate our time together,” and suddenly, your heart drops? Yeah. That just happened. And it wasn’t your best friend—it was Mitch Marner. For weeks, we’ve heard the trade rumors of Marner moving to the Carolina Hurricanes, but it was all just speculation. Until Marner finally broke his silence, which left fans spiraling.
“I’m not going to get into this contract stuff. I’ve been very grateful, & I’ve loved my time being a Leaf. That’s (how) I’ll leave it with you guys.” Marner said. But wait! Here’s the real kicker—the Leafs actually went to Marner with the contract and asked him to consider it. But did he give them an answer? Nope. Not a word. Why? Recently, in an interview following practice on Sunday, Auston Matthews was asked about how Marner has been handling all the trade rumors swirling around him. And, in true hockey player fashion, he kept it cool, calm, to keep us all guessing. “He’s handled things great, There’s certain things that are out of your control, and that’s one of them. It is what it is. I don’t know really what else to say about it.” He said.
