As a 19-year-old, Stephen Curry was seen as a scrawny and thin kid who would be too small for D-1 basketball. None of the big schools extended a scholarship. But Davidson College outside of Charlotte saw the potential of a magical player. Curry’s three years there were sensational, which included breaking the school’s all-time 3-pointer record. Talk about some foreshadowing of the damage he would continue in the NBA.
However, that wasn’t the last of his time at Davidson. In 2022, he returned to finish his undergraduate degree and was later honored by being inducted into the Hall of Fame. With such a deep and meaningful connection, that couldn’t be the end of the story. Curry wants to give back. According to Shams Charania, Curry is taking over as the assistant general manager for the university’s basketball programs.
This makes him the first active U.S. professional sports athlete to take an administrative role in the NCAA. None of the 540 NBA players have taken up such an opportunity if it did ever present itself.

This makes Stephen Curry the pioneer of another potential outlet for former NBA players. But it’s also fitting that the Chef and Davidson are forming this partnership. Nobody except the university was willing to take a chance at the now icon. Now, it’s his turn to do the same for them.
And he is coming with a team.
