Team Khabib laid out plans for Islam Makhachev
With Justin Gaethje‘s victory at UFC 313 against Rafael Fiziev, the former ‘BMF’ titleholder is back in the title picture against Islam Makhachev. But will he be ready to face the promotion’s most dominant talent? That question has been answered by Team Khabib’s head coach, Javier Mendez. According to the head coach, Gaethje will find it immensely difficult to fight on his foot as Makhachev’s ground game is near perfect.
“It definitely, in my opinion, would play out differently because they are not the same fighter. Islam is more well-rounded than Khabib was, you know, so Islam is at the point where he’s pound-for-pound number 1 because he’s well-rounded in all the areas.” Mendez went on to say that ‘The Eagle’ was “not as well-rounded as Islam is in the striking,” said Mendez while having a conversation on ‘Submission Radio.’
Praising Khabib Nurmagomedov’s ground game and relentless pressure, Javier Mendez assured that, unlike his mentor, Islam Makhachev’s gameplan is totally different, “Islam doesn’t have that type of game he’s got a different type of game. His game is incredible’s submission level a base more than anything and as you’ve seen it with all his submissions you know it’s different.”
Justin Gaethje fought Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title back at UFC 254, however, ‘The Highlight’ lost the battle by way of a triangular choke. However, the American fighter is looking to change his fortune now. Given that, will Justin Gaethje be able to stop the Dagestani train or will Islam Makhachev will have another victory? State your thoughts in the comments below.
