“He’s one of the best 155-pounders of all time. He built that weight class and he was responsible for helping build the UFC. That’s his legacy.” Dana White once said of former two-division UFC champion BJ Penn. The UFC’s lightweight division, of course, has been the toughest, most vaunted division in the entire sport for some time.
One of the guys who literally helped build the promotion from the get-go, ‘The Prodigy’ was not just one of the greatest lightweights, but also a juggernaut at 170lbs and famously slayed Matt Hughes at UFC 46 to win the gold. But it seems like his eighteen-year stint in the UFC has taken a severe toll on his mental health. Either that or he is a master of trolling.
Penn recently put out a video on his Instagram where he pointed to his mother, Lorraine Shin, and worryingly claimed that his mother has been killed and replaced by a clone by the ‘Abilye family’ in collusion with the ‘government’ because they’re trying to “steal Penn family money”.
Clearly, the Hawaii native is not holding up pretty well. In fact, he seems very ill and his grasp on reality does seem to be a bit, well, tenuous. Needless to say, the fans are concerned. While some trolls did try to feed into ‘The Prodigy’s paranoia in the comments section of his post. It is safe to say most were pretty worried.
Fans react to BJ Penn’s worrying recent video
One fan was stunned like everyone else at what Penn had come to. If ever there was a man who needed some medical help, it was Penn. And this fan just sincerely hoped that someone would get the UFC trailblazer the help he needed: “Holy s–t someone needs to help BJ”
Another fan, who wished Penn was just trolling, felt that the former double champ’s current situation was a clear case of CTE, which wouldn’t be surprising since the Hawaiian fought for eighteen years in the UFC, and lost his last half a dozen fights: “This is probably the saddest case of cte ever in mma or he’s the goat or trolling”
One fan was incensed at some of the other fans, who were making fun of Penn or feeding into his seeming delusion, and reiterated that the former lightweight champ needed to get some help as soon as possible: “BJ I can’t even joke about this one man you gotta get some help”
One fan was so confused and shocked at Penn’s ramblings that all they could do is ask: “What is happening Bj ?” Another called on UFC CEO Dana White to do something to help Penn for his indelible services to the promotion: “@danawhite please help him! He’s a legend and needs you.”
And all we can say is that we agree completely. Penn’s current situation seems extremely serious. Like Defcon 1, break glass to pull fire alarm serious. Someone may probably get hurt if Penn doesn’t get some medical help. And we just hope he gets it as soon as possible. What do you think about BJ Penn’s worrying recent video?
