On Sunday, Claressa Shields defeated Danielle Perkins in her hometown to become the first-ever women’s undisputed heavyweight champion. The scheduled 10-round bout went the full distance and even though Perkins tried her best, it was the GWOAT who walked out with her hands raised. In a first for boxing, the unanimous decision victory saw Shields picking up the undisputed title in a third weight class.
No one wanted to miss the historic bout, as even the likes of Terence Crawford were present at the Dort Financial Center, Flint. During the post-fight celebration, FightHype TV caught the Omaha native to ask his opinion on the match and its significance. Himself a two-division undisputed champion, Bud Crawford expressed his amazement at the astounding feat.

After the fight, as ‘Bud’ was greeting his fans ringside, the interviewer asked him to “show some love to the GWOAT.” Evidently, Claressa Shields’ performance impressed Terence Crawford as he remarked, “It was a great performance.”
As always, the Omaha native was a man of few words but he made sure to acknowledge what he witnessed at the Dort Financial Center in Flint. “History being made,” he declared, to summarize the legacy-defining moment of Claressa Shields. As a two-division undisputed champion, ‘Bud’ knows the grueling path ‘T-Rex’ must have taken to achieve this feat. As the interviewer asked him “How hard is that to achieve,”, Terence Crawford replied, “very hard” before moving on to greet other guests at the event.
Fight Hype caught the WBA super welterweight champion again to ask him how important it is for fighters to support Claressa Shields in acknowledging her historic moment. Crawford explained that while supporting the Flint native is necessary, it should not be limited only to her. “It’s important for everybody to support everybody not just one one fighter. We all need to support each other. We all need to support the women’s boxing,” added Terence Crawford.

On July 29, 2023, Terence Crawford created history to become the first male boxer to become an undisputed welterweight champion in the four-belt era. The victory also made him a two-division undisputed champion in boxing, something that Claressa Shields had already achieved by then.
After the fight, the GWOAT met the Omaha native in the locker room and greeted him with words of appreciation. Shields introduced ‘Bud’ as the “first male 2x Undisputed Champ” to the world. The duo filmed a whole scene together while standing beside each other as the Flint native stated, “Y’all, I’m with my pound-for-pound no. 1. Two-time undisputed champ!”
Even at that time, Crawford did not forget to mention that Shields had already achieved the same feat. “Two two-times, one two-time [Shields], two two-time [himself],” stated Crawford. The duo later uploaded the video on their social media and the pair have been supporting each other ever since.
As Terence Crawford stated, women’s boxing is on the rise right now but it still needs everyone’s support. Even though it was Claressa Shields’ choice to have the fight in Flint, the bout deserved a far bigger arena. After all, it was a moment that every combat sports fan and enthusiast deserved to witness live.
