Paul George’s 76ers Future in Serious Doubt as Daryl Morey’s Major Reveal Raises More Concerns for Philly Fans

If you only listened to the media, you’d think the Philadelphia 76ers hadn’t won a single game all season. But the reality? They’re 13th in the East, just five games out of a Play-In spot. That said, their struggles go far beyond the standings—injuries, off-court drama, and lackluster performances have defined their season.

Everyone knows about the Joel Embiid injury saga. But now, there’s another major concern—Paul George’s future in Philly.

Let’s start with the immediate issue—his health. George hyperextended his knee before the season even started, forcing him to miss the first five games. More recently, he’s been sidelined for four straight contests due to a left groin injury. And according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, this isn’t just a minor setback—there’s a real chance his season could be over.

But that’s not even the biggest twist. In his report, Shams hinted at something even bigger—Paul George’s future in Philadelphia may not last much longer.

His tweet reads, “Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George is consulting with doctors this week on treatment options for his groin and knee injuries, including a possible procedure, sources tell ESPN. A decision is expected early next week.” But there’s reports that Paul George might’ve just played his last game for Philly, and not just for this season.

According to Sam Amico, senior NBA writer at Hoops Wire, the Philadelphia 76ers could be looking to offload Paul George this summer. Given the team’s struggles, that move might seem questionable at best.

Sure, injuries have been a problem, but George brings experience, leadership, and a level of consistency the Sixers desperately need. His value isn’t just in the box score—it’s intangible, the kind of presence that could steady a team in chaos.

Trading him wouldn’t just mean losing an All-Star-caliber player—it would also put their top-six protected pick in next year’s draft at risk. And considering that pick is one of the only reasons the Sixers should still be fighting for something this season, moving on from PG could end up being a decision they regret.

While the Sixers grapple with the potential fallout of trading Paul George, Daryl Morey’s latest comments have only added fuel to the fire.

76ers president Daryl Morey makes ridiculous claim

Philly fans already have enough to stress over. Besides death and taxes, the only other certainty in their lives seems to be Sixers disappointment. Even when WWE rolled into the City of Brotherly Love, Paul George and the rest of the team couldn’t escape the boos.

If there was ever a time for some reassurance, it had to come from the top dog—team president Daryl Morey. But after his latest interview on DraftKings Network, it feels like the hole the Sixers are in just got even deeper. Morey dove into the team’s decision-making process, revealing how much they rely on models and AI in scouting and drafting.

“We absolutely use models as a vote in any decision. How much of that decision depends on the assumptions behind those models don’t change, and their past success rates. So if you have a highly successful model for picking draft picks… Turns out LLMs do fairly well at predictions. They still are not beating humans… but they do add signal over just scouts so we’ll treat them as one scout and overtime if it shows that it has a better track record than scouts then we’ll use multiple LLMs are one or two votes outta the process,” said the prez.

For a fanbase desperate for real solutions, hearing that AI models might be playing a bigger role in decision-making than actual basketball minds isn’t exactly inspiring. Right now, Sixers fans don’t need algorithms—they need answers.

This obviously isn’t something you admit on national television. Even fans know it. This is something you’d be operating under the table on your phone during a college examination hoping your professor never finds out. The Twitter world certainly knew the situation, with some of them saying that he used ChatGPT to come up with George’s contract. One fan even linked this to Nico Harrison somehow, saying that the Mavs GM should’ve used OpenAI’s software to keep Luka Doncic in the team.

No one really knows the true potential of AI. With some calling an apocalypse from the get-go, something like calling shots at of the NBA’s finest teams doesn’t seem too bad. But this isn’t what the Sixers fans wanted to wake up to in the morning- especially after Paul George’s future in question.
