West Virginia University (WVU) thought it could easily slide into the NCAA tournament. Why? Thanks to their 6-10 record over the teams which came under top 10 – Gonzaga, Kansas and Iowa State. In fact, the Mountaineers completed the regular season with a 10-10 conference record, being the no. 8 teams in the Big 12. Everything sounds fine, right? But wait….it wasn’t enough at all for the NCAA! And Pat McAfee is definitely not entertaining it.
Pat McAfee, who himself played as a kicker at West Virginia from 2005 to 2008, is stunned to learn of the new decision. He shared a story on his official Instagram account, featuring a X post from Chris Anderson. The tweet mentioned – “#WVU is listed as the very first team left out of the NCAA Tournament team. #WVU had SIX Quad One victories this season. The last four teams in – UNC, Texas, Xavier and San Diego State – also had six Quad One wins…… COMBINED.”
Sharing the same, Pat McAfee wrote a strong 3-word message – “WVU GOT SCREWED.” The former Indianapolis Colts’s punter seems clearly frustrated to not see his ex-university making it to the NCAA tournament of the year. Not only that!
Pat McAfee further shared a tweet on his official X account. There too, he wrote, “WVU got screwed. Of course!” He even shared the names of the first four teams who are out of this tournament – West Virginia, Indiana, Ohio State, Boise State. But you know what’s worse here?
North Carolina had a weak resume with only one Quad 1 win all season, and still they are selected into the 2025 NCAA Tournament. While, on the other hand, teams like West Virginia and Indiana had 6 Quad 1 and 4 Quad 1 wins, respectively. But still they were left out. Sad!
