Too many quarterbacks? That’s like asking if you can have too much pizza. In college football, you can never be too stacked at the QB position. It’s the team’s heartbeat, after all. Sherrone Moore gets it. He’s building a quarterback fortress at Michigan. Looks like Ann Arbor is soon to have a quarterback goldmine, not a quarterback room. He’s already snagged five-star phenom Bryce Underwood for the 2025 class, reportedly with an NIL deal that’d make your eyes water. And he’s not stopping there. Moore’s got his sights locked on Brady Smigiel and Ryder Lyons for 2026, plus a new, mystery QB with high-potential buzz. That too for 2027!
On March 17th, Michigan insider EJ Holland hit X with some exciting news about four-star quarterback Peter Bourque. This 6’4″, 200 lbs standout from Tabor Academy, ranked No. 62 overall in the 2027 class, has Wolverine fans buzzing. He is heading to Ann Arbor on March 22nd! With 12 offers already on the table, Bourque’s interest in Sherrone Moore’s program is undeniable, and the feeling is mutual.

When Michigan extended an offer, Bourque was, in his words, “pretty fired up!” He recounted, “I called (Tight Ends) Coach (Steve) Casula, and he had (Offensive Coordinator) Coach (Chip) Lindsey get on the phone, and we talked about my game and about getting back out to Michigan. He then said he wanted to offer me a scholarship to Michigan.”
Bourque’s on-field prowess speaks volumes. Despite calling his game ‘a little sloppy,’ he led Catholic Memorial to the Division 2 state championship as a freshman in 2023. Against St. Francis (NY), he showcased his talent with a 54-yard touchdown scramble, 173 passing yards, and a 15-of-24 completion rate.
However, Michigan faces stiff competition. Bourque holds offers from Rutgers, Penn State, Maryland, Kentucky, and Syracuse. Penn State, in particular, seems to have made an impression, with Bourque describing his January visit as an “awesome day.” Meanwhile, Sherrone Moore’s QB room is heating up with other blue-chip prospects.
Sherrone Moore’s top QB targets
Michigan’s strategy with top QB targets is something else. No matter what’s going on, Sherrone Moore makes sure the team’s ready. Last season, they kept a solid QB lineup, like Alex Orji, Jack Tuttle, and Davis Warren, even when things got a bit wobbly. Right now, Moore’s got his eye on Ryder Lyons and Brady Smigiel.
Ryder Lyons is heading to Michigan on April 12-13, and his mom, Kamee Lyons, seems “very excited” about the trip. Those two days could be a real game-changer. Michigan’s QB plans shifted when their 2026 commit, Brady Hart, reclassified to 2025 and bounced to Texas A&M, right after they got Bryce Underwood. This bumped Lyons way up the priority list. His skills are getting compared to J.J. McCarthy, and knowing Moore’s game plan, it feels like a well-thought-out move.
Then there’s Brady Smigiel, the No. 7 QB and No. 67 overall recruit, according to 247Sports. He’d committed to Florida State last June, which seemed like a perfect fit for Mike Norvell’s offense. But, you know how recruiting goes; things change. On January 26, Smigiel decided to reopen his recruitment. After weighing his options for months, he’s down to his final four: Michigan Wolverines, Washington Huskies, UCLA, and South Carolina Gamecocks.
Brady’s commitment is huge for Moore’s team. 247Sports’ scouting report is all praise, calling him a “big, strong-armed pocket passer” with a “very high football IQ.” They also mention his dad’s coaching influence, which helped him develop a natural feel for the game. With all these quarterbacks in the mix, the big question is, can Sherrone Moore land his guys? Jim Harbaugh found his McCarthy; Moore is about to find one!
