Confronted by Joe Rogan, Jiri Prochazka Seeks to Undo Mistake in Alex Pereira Rematch

“That was something I made [up], that was something [that] I really [took] to another level, yeah,” said Jiri Prochazka as he acknowledged his mistake in accusing Alex Pereira of using some Brazilian black magic to amass victories. Well, MMA is no stranger to fighters leaving wild accusations after a loss. Still, when Jiri Prochazka claimed Pereira’s use of “Black Magic” to win the fights, the MMA community’s jaw dropped as they were not expecting ‘BJP’ to make such accusations after his defeat. After acknowledging his mistake at ‘JRE’, Prochazka has again asserted that he is looking to undo it.

While having a conversation with former BKFC champion Mike Perry on the OverDogs Podcast, Jiri Prochazka, and the hosts had a candid discussion about his next fight and what he would do differently to secure victory against Alex Pereira after suffering two consecutive defeats against the light heavyweight champion. Amidst the conversation, Mike Perry with a rather unserious look said, “Some shamans to shut down his black magic yes yeah.”

‘The Czech Samurai’ eventually stated that it was his mistake to put that message in front of the world about the employment of black magic – “Yeah, like I said in a podcast with Joe Rogan, there is nothing like, uh, like black magic if you don’t believe in that. It’s just—it’s everything about our beliefs, what you believe in, what you don’t.”

He further added, “And I don’t want to speak about that more. Yes, sir, I said enough about that, and it was my mistake that I spoke about it because it was just more focused on this—on this thing. I respect all beliefs and all religions, but right now, I’m just focusing on myself to make improvements and make it happen. The win.”

According to Jiří Procházka, the time has come for him to focus on his ability to finish opponents rather than making false claims about relying on a higher power for victory. When asked whether he would like to face former champion Jan Błachowicz next, as the UFC expands into European markets, Procházka asserted that his sole focus remains on Pereira.

The light-heavyweight champion will be clashing against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 to defend his title and he appears to be prepared for the battle. However, before that, he addressed the accusations about his use of black magic for victories.

Alex Pereira responds to Jiri Prochazka’s ‘black magic’ allegations

Blatant accusations without solid proof can drastically ruin someone’s image, and Procházka’s black magic claim against Alex Pereira certainly did its thing. The entire MMA community talked about it for months. Well, the light-heavyweight champion has come forward to clear the air around such accusations. While having a conversation with Ariel Helwani, Pereira asserted, “All respect to him, but no man, I’m a god-fearing man.”

He further added, “I have God in my heart…he’s just saying these things, I’ve never participated in any of those things, I’m a regular person. If he really believed that, take a doll, tie my hands and feet, and then fight me, like that’s going to work? With all respect to him, and honestly speaking, if we went and fought again a third time and if he put all these [magic claims] aside and just fought, I think we would be able to give a much better fight…I don’t want to fight guys who are cheating, no, I want to fight them at their best…at their prime.”

When you have won your title through sheer hard work, only for your opponents to refuse to acknowledge it and instead accuse you of using black magic, it could be frustrating. However, Alex Pereira has remained calm amidst these accusations, especially as he prepares to defend his title against Magomed Ankalaev soon.
