Charlie McAvoy Makes Heartfelt Confession After Losing Brad Marchand and Other Ex-Bruins Teammates

Charlie McAvoy’s return to practice after over a month away from the ice was special for the Bruins. Coach Joe Sacco said it “boosted” the team’s morale. Yet, the Bruins, including McAvoy didn’t really celebrate. “I wish a lot of things would have been different coming down the stretch here, I really do.” the defenseman told reporters.

Despite joining practice, there’s no timeline for the defenseman’s return to the NHL. And as if watching his team lose six games consecutively wasn’t enough, McAvoy also discussed how it felt watching some of his best friends leave during the trade window. “It was not fun. It was a really tough day on a lot of different fronts,” McAvoy said about Brad Marchand’s departure.

Brad Marchand led the Boston Bruins for 16 seasons and was really close with Charlie McAvoy. Yet, Marchand wasn’t the only one who left. Fellow defenseman Brandon Carlo, forward Charlie Coyle, and others leaving for different teams also hurt McAvoy. “I’ve seen a lot of my friends no longer here, and I understand there’s a business part of… But it doesn’t make it easier,” the 27-year-old said in the locker room.
