‘He Asked Me Out’ – Frances Tiafoe’s Romantic Side Exposed by GF Ayan Broomfield in a Candid Confession

While they’ve been a couple for almost ten years, Frances Tiafoe and Ayan Broomfield have kept the story of their first meeting largely under wraps. However, if you scroll back on Tiafoe’s Instagram, you’ll find a date – September 8, 2015 – that suggests the beginning of their journey together. So, the burning question is, who initiated that first date? Who took the plunge and asked the other out? Interestingly, it wasn’t either of them directly – it was someone else who played matchmaker.

A day after Frances Tiafoe’s loss to Arthur Fils in the R32 in Miami, Broomfield appeared on the Tennis Channel’s show. When asked how she ended up meeting BF Tiafoe, she revealed, “I met Frances, so we both knew about each other, but I met him in person in 2015.” And the matchmaker was…

a former [American tennis] player named Victoria Duval,” who “knew both of us individually and she kind of peeped in Frances’ ear and said, ‘I think you guys would be fun together, I think you would have a good time.’ And so, Frances reached out and we became friends for about six months.” What about after that?

Initially, they became best friends, but later he asked me out and it’s been history. It’s been a while.” She then concluded, saying, “We always tell her(Duval), ‘you’ll be at the wedding.”

Broomfield and Tiafoe aren’t shy about sharing their affection for each other on social media. However, Broomfield’s first public acknowledgment of their relationship came in 2018, when she posted a sweet Valentine’s Day photo of herself with her arms around Tiafoe’s shoulders, captioning it, “My valentine for the day” on Instagram.

A year later, in 2019, while celebrating their four-year anniversary, Tiafoe posted a heartfelt tribute to Broomfield alongside a picture of them dressed up for a night out. He playfully wrote on Instagram, “Happy Fourth year anniversary babes. Damn time went craaazzyyy quick. We been datin datin . Love you deep sexy. You one crazy chick but couldn’t imagine being with anyone else .” The couple has never stopped since then.!

Remember the moment from 2023 when the ATP pro entered the top 10 after winning the Stuttgart Open? Broomfield took to IG and celebrated with a post that read, “TOP 10 IN THE WORLD!” while adding, “I started taking screenshots of different moments and accomplishments a few years ago in anticipation of this day. I can’t post them all but I think this tells the story pretty well. I am so proud of you. Huge milestone and I think that we can finally say that #bigfoecameup.” How could Tiafoe stay behind in sharing his emotions?

Fun fact: 2015 was the same year that Tiafoe, after a successful junior career that saw him reach a world No. 2 ranking, turned professional at the age of 17.

Replying to her in the comments, he wrote, “Man to think how far we’ve come. 2015 meeting you for the first and also just starting my career. Youve rocked with me thru it all. The good the bad and the standstills. It’s been a ride no one can put into words. I’m soo damn lucky to have you in my life. Not only as my girl but my best friend and my go to. You mean more to me than you can ever imagine. I love you with all I got.”

In the same year, Tiafoe also thanked her for staying by his side on tours.

When Frances Tiafoe credited GF Ayan Broomfield for her heartwarming contribution

Undoubtedly, Ayan Broomfield has been Frances Tiafoe‘s No.1 supporter, on and off the court. In his ATP events, she’s been spotted cheering for him. Remember how she attended one of his events in 2023, without actually informing him? When he won his second ATP trophy at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, Broomfield was present in the crowd, alongside his family and friends. It wasn’t until the end of the first set that he realized she was already there.

During the post-match interview, he expressed his admiration for her and said, “I also want to thank … my girlfriend Ayan, who I see in the crowd at 1-0. I didn’t even know you were in Houston. I thought you were in L.A.! She surprised me, that’s unbelievable you’re here. You see me win my second title, so that’s unbelievable,” reported People magazine last September.

Later, during an episode of Netflix docuseries Break point, Broomfield revealed how belonging to tennis background actually helped them to bond better. “We can talk about tennis. I mean, I played tennis myself. So even just when we’re seeing the draw, and we kind of look at certain players, sometimes I can act as a sounding board for matches,” she said. “I just feel like we just understand it and what it takes for someone to go and be able to compete at the highest level.”

Tiafoe will need her support even more going forward this season. He’s not been able to impress much on the court, facing early exits in back-to-back tournaments. After crashing out of the Australian Open in the second round, he was ousted at the Dallas Open, Mexican Open, and Indian Wells early. Then his appearance in Miami didn’t prove to be fruitful, either.

Next up, he will be seen in action at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston. He’s already won this ATP 250 event two years ago. Last season, he was the runner-up. This time, too, he will be expected to deliver a similar performance. Do you think Tiafoe will make a deep run in 2025’s edition? Let us know in the comments below.
