MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox Gives a Big Warning to Scott Boras After a “Communication” With Cardinals

The long waiting game that Scott Boras is playing with Alex Bregman might just not bear fruit for the player. All the big teams like the Mets and the Yankees have already gotten their third baseman. The teams that have been linked to Bregman are the Red Sox, the Astros, Chicago, Cubs, Blue Jays and the Detroit Tigers. However, it seems like one of these teams has pivoted from Bregman.

The Red Sox have been pretty busy this offseason. Their latest splash? Adding Garret Crochet from the White Sox to their roster. But they also need a solid bat. For a while the team was looking for it in Alex Bregman but now sources say that the club is also communicating with St. Louis Cardinals for none other than Nolan Arenado.

Scott Boras’ Alex Bregman might lose a suitor after waiting for so long

As per MLB insider Jon Morosi, the Red Sox and Cardinals have had recent “communication” about Nolan Arenado. The Cardinals want to cut payroll and make way for younger players into the team. Losing Arenado is their best option. Meanwhile, the Red Sox will gain a proven defensive right-handed bat. If the Red Sox proceed with Nolan Arenado, doors for third baseman Alex Bregman might be sealed and he will lose Red Sox as his suitor.

The Red Sox and Cardinals have had recent communication about Nolan Arenado, source says.

If the trade talks move forward, they could have implications for Alex Bregman’s market.

Of note, Cardinals exec Chaim Bloom has close knowledge of Boston’s prospects.

Chaim Bloom’s move to St. Louis definitely adds a layer of intrigue to any potential Arenado trade talks. Having spent four years in charge of Boston’s front office, Bloom knows their farm system inside and out, which gives him a significant advantage in negotiations. If he wants to make a splash in St. Louis, he’s got a solid understanding of what could appeal to the Red Sox, and might be in a better position to strike a deal that benefits both sides.

Can Nolan Arenado get his magic back?

Nolan Arenado‘s 2024 season was a bit of a head-scratcher for fans who are used to seeing him dominate the diamond year in and year out. Sure, he still posted respectable numbers with a .272 average, 16 homers, 71 RBIs, and 70 runs, but for someone who’s built a reputation as one of the most consistent power hitters in the game, it felt like a slight dip.

But Arenado isn’t just your average slugger; he’s an eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner, a guy who’s cranked 30 or more home runs in seven seasons and 40-plus dingers three times. But after hitting 26 bombs in 2023 and only 16 last year, some might be wondering—is his prime past, or is it just a temporary dip in production?

The power just hasn’t been the same, and though his defense continues to be elite, you can’t help but feel like he’s on the verge of turning it back on, right? It’s tough to bet against a player of his caliber. The question is: Can he rediscover that MVP-level pop and chase another 30-40 homers in 2025?
