The Jimmy Butler saga has finally come to an end. He has left another franchise by burning down all the bridges. The Bulls sent him packing after he called out his teammates’ effort and clashed with Fred Hoiberg. Things didn’t get any smoother in Minnesota—his fiery personality didn’t sit well with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, leading to another trade. Then came Philly, where the front office had a choice to make: Butler or Tobias Harris. They went with Harris, and Butler wasted no time taking his talents to Miami.
After a string of suspensions, Butler is heading out of Miami. It all began with that jaw-dropping press conference, where he dropped the bomb that he’d lost his joy for the game. He straight-up said he didn’t believe he could find it again in Miami. You won’t have to look at his hair to find out where he’s headed.
The Miami Heat are reportedly trading their six-time All-Star to the Golden State Warriors. In exchange, the Warriors will send over Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round pick, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Butler is officially locked in with the Golden State Warriors, inking a two-year, $121 million extension that will keep him through 2026-27. As reported by Shams and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Butler is forgoing his 2025-26 player option to secure this new deal.
The Warriors are in Salt Lake City as this news comes out. According to Ron Kroichick it’s an intense vibe in Salt Lake City right now. Steve Kerr just closed the locker room for a pregame talk with the players looking grim.
Dub Nation has been very vocal about getting help for Stephen Curry for the past few weeks. And now that the Warriors have made a trade, the fans are furious.
One fan tweeted, “gave up way too much for an old a– jimmy butler lmaooo”. Butler, as great as he is, is 35 years old, and his performance has been a rollercoaster recently. Sure, he’s a clutch postseason performer, but at this point in his career, is he really worth giving up so much for? Curry is making almost $56 million this season, is Butler worth more than Curry? Plus they gave away Wiggins.
“sh–ty organization telling me we gave up 3 players AND A FIRST FOR AN OLD WASHED BUTLER” wrote another fan. For the Warriors, giving up key contributors like Wiggins, Schroder, and Kyle Anderson is a massive risk. These players, particularly Wiggins, have been important to the Warriors’ success in recent seasons. Plus, the first-round pick is a valuable asset that could have helped the Warriors down the line or in another trade.
This is a developing story…
