Gabby Thomas Left Emotional as Alexis Ohanian’s Women-Only Track & Field League Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Where? – The National Stadium, Kingston, Jamaica – A place where the statues of Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Asafa Powell, Arthur Wint, and many more Jamaican athletes watch you race. What? Grand Slam Track – April 4& 5, 2025. A 28-year-old woman donning the grayish New Balance attire ran down the tracks in 200m and 400m. She is the first ever to win a race in Grand Slam track as she touches the tape in 22.62 seconds and the first ever Slam champion as she crosses the line in 49.14 seconds. Two new records were registered under the name Gaby Thomas. Perhaps that is why even Athlos – Alexis Ohanian’s Women-Only Track & Field League couldn’t help but pay tribute to her. What a reaction from her!

Taking to their Instagram, ATHLOS posted a video that included all of Gabby Thomas’ inspiring moments on March 8, 2025. “To the young girls and boys who might be watching, believe in yourself.” The video began by showing a young Georgia native with a hat, books, and a violin as well. As more of Thomas rolled through the video, so did her voiceover, now talking of dreams, “When I was younger, I had big dreams too. Dreams that often times scared me because they felt like they were too far away. Your dreams, no matter how big they are, are valid.

What better dream than some fans waiting for you for two hours? That is what we were shown next in the video. But what does dreaming big mean? As we are racing Gabby, she says, “Dreaming big means stepping outside of your comfort zone. It means working hard even when nobody is watching  and believing in yourself even when it feels hard.” And the next we for her is when she shocked the entire world back in 2023. The video shared the clip from the 2023 USA Track and Field Championships when the 28-year-old defeated Sha’carri Richardson in 200m. Thomas sprinted to a 21.60 in the final, a personal best, meeting record, and the fastest time of 2023.

The video ended with a very important message from the track and field legend: “So don’t hold back, be bold, be brave, and dream big.” Gabby herself got emotional after watching the video. “I’m not crying you’re crying ” she commented on the Instagram post.
