In two weeks, a new chapter will unfold. And Jalen Milroe is among the ones in the center of that transition. This guy from Texas who made his name in Tuscaloosa, now the NFL’s calling. Not with just some random scout calling either. We’re talking real visits, real talk with head coaches, and real decisions that could shape the future of an entire franchise. And through it all? He’s still looking back at a guy who did it before him and lit the same path he’s walking. Yeah, that guy who went from Crimson Tide hero to Philly’s $255 million man!
Jalen Milroe’s been watching closely. Every time Jalen Hurts and the Eagles hit the field, he’s tuned in, studying — not just the game, but the guy. On April 11, NFL on ESPN posted an X clip of the former Alabama signal caller’s live interview with Dan Graziano. He detailed “his relationship with Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts as he starts his own NFL journey.” “What I take from him is seeing what right looks like,” the future NFL player said. “You know throughout the whole period of time. With him keeping his head down, continues to grind, keep refining his skill set and just keep on elevating and being the best version of himself whether it on the field or off the field.” You could tell this wasn’t just idol talk. This was someone who saw the blueprint up close and decided to follow it.

They’re both Houston boys, Jalen Milroe and Hurts. Both ran the Tide’s offense with their legs first and their arms second. And just like Hurts, Milroe didn’t always get love for his passing game. Strong arm? Absolutely. Polished passer? Not so much. We already know how Hurts was benched in favor of Tua Tagovailoa at the 2017 national championship during halftime because of his poor passing. But just like his hero, he found ways to win big. Undefeated in the SEC as a first-year starter is no joke.
Jalen Milroe’s numbers didn’t pop off the page — never cracked the 3,000 passing yards in a season. But Jalen Hurts didn’t in Alabama either. And now, he’s sitting pretty as a Super Bowl MVP and one of the richest QB contracts in the league. “And so of course you know as a player that’s inspired to go to the NFL, it’s always unique that each starting quarterback in the league does something right,” he added. “They have a certain skill set and certain presence about them that makes them a starting quarterback. He’s definitely one of them for me.” That’s the shadow Milroe’s been walking in, and he’s not shying away from it. He’s owning it.
Is Jalen Milroe in the mix for Mike Tomlin?
Let’s flip it to Pittsburgh because Jalen Milroe’s been there. The Steelers’ QB room’s been a revolving door and this offseason, they’ve been moving like they got something to prove. The Aaron Rodgers’ rumor? Real loud. Word is they threw a one-year deal at him but long term? They’re looking at the draft prospects and this Bama product has their attention.
Jalen Milroe appeared on Good Morning Football, all smiles talking about his visit to Pittsburgh. “It was definitely a cool visit,” he said. And when it came to HC Mike Tomlin? “Coach Tomlin was chill, laid back,” he added. “You gotta be serious the whole conversation. Nah, it was a laid back conversation, and of course we talked b—… We talked game and stuff like that, but it was definitely a more laid back conversation.” That kind of vibe says a lot. But he’s not the only QB in the mix for Shedeur Sanders has had his chat with the Steelers too.
Oh well, for now Jalen Milroe is walking a tightrope. He’s trying to prove he’s more than just a runner, more than just the next Hurts. But he got a shot and he knows it.
