Everyone Is Saying the Same Thing as Emotional Carlos Prates Accepts Terminal Cancer Patient’s Unusual Promise Before UFC Kansas City

Shaving cancer patients’ heads has seemingly become a welcome trend in the fighting world. Back in July 2024, Alex Pereira helped a young fan with cancer shave his head in Melbourne. Earlier in 2025, Jiri Prochazka removed his iconic hairstyle to support a cancer patient. Furthermore, Conor McGregor shaved his head to inspire a suffering fan three years ago. And now, Carlos Prates has joined the list by promising to shave one of his terminally ill fans, and the MMA community is loving him for it!

The news was shared by ESPN MMA on Instagram, where two chat bubbles showed the quotes from the fan and the #13 welterweight contender, along with a picture of ‘The Nightmare’. The fan had sent a text message to Prates that read, “Hey, I was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I’m going to lose my hair. I live in Kansas City and will be at the fight night. It would be a huge honor for one of my favorite up and coming fighters to shave my head. I’ll buy you a pack of smokes.”

Needless to say, the Fighitng Nerd was seemingly heartbroken with the request. And getting asked to shave a terminally ill patient’s head was indeed a task of great honor. No doubt, Prates accepted the request and promised to meet his fan. He replied, “What’s up my brother , first of all sorry for that, I can imagine how hard is your fight, but u are not alone bro, let’s goo, would be amazing meet u in Kansas bro.” After all, in Kansas City, Prates is going to clash against Ian Machado Garry in the main event of the Fight Night on 26 April 2025. There’s no way the Brazilian can disappoint his fans now, is there?

Impressed by Prates’ promise to meet the fan with terminal cancer, the former MMA star Alan Jouban dropped in three clapping emojis in the comments section. And following his suit, the fighting fans had a similar thought. Let’s see what they had to say.

Fight fans cheer Carlos Prates as he promises to make terminally ill supporter’s wishes come true

The fighting community was indeed proud of ‘The Nightmare’. One of the fans claimed, “That’s beautiful that’s why I’m a fan of CP.” Another fan added, “CP the best thing for fans with cancer.” One more fan took a moment to reflect on the Brazilian welterweight’s habits and MMA record. The #13 welterweight contender is a knockout artist with 16 out of 21 wins coming from KO/TKO. And all of that came with his smoker’s lungs. On top of that, he even took quite a few strong shots from his opponents. The comment read, “Ngl prates my new favorite fighter. Dude rips darts, gets hammered and ko’s people .”

A few fans decided to praise Prates’ team, the Fighting Nerds. Apart from Prates, fighters like Caio Borralho, Jean Silva, and Mauricio Ruffy, have been making quite some noise outside the Octagon lately. And most of them are on a winning spree inside the MMA cage. Weighing in on this, a fan wrote, “Fighting nerds can’t stop getting W’s in the octagon and outside.” Meanwhile, another claimed that this ragtag group was solving a big hurdler for the UFC, “The fighting nerds low-key saving the UFC’s lack of star power .”

However, the fight fans weren’t oblivious to the promise of pay by cigarettes. One of the fans dissed Prates and believed, “Bro Was Getting Left On Read Til Be Saw Cigarettes Were Involved…” On the other hand, another fan praised the cancer patient’s love for Prates. The comment read, “He even offered to buy him some smokes, wholesome fan!” This was indeed in response to Prates’ recent revelation regarding his daily cigarette consumption. Well, he did admit to smoking 10-15 cigarettes a day in a conversation with Full Violence. Nevertheless, promising to shave his fan’s head took him to greater heights.

What are your thoughts on Prates’ response to his fan? Do you have any suggestions for the Fighting Nerd to quit smoking? If so, then drop down to the debate section below and let us know all the tips.
