Wesley Bryan, the social media sensation along with being a professional, has been among the favorite names in the golf world. From a young age, he was inclined toward the game. Even notably after beginning at the age of 8 years, the golfer found success during the college tournament and continued his way until he finally became a professional in 2012. But with his 14-year-long professional career, he has faced an unusual ban that might affect his career.
Recently, the golfer participated in LIV’s “The Duels: Miami,” which resulted in an undisclosed duration suspension for participation at the PGA Tour. Along with him, nine influencers participated in the event, but he faced the consequences. Since he is the only professional having 134 professional appearances, he got the unexpected suspension. Now with that, unlike last year at the Corales Puntacana Championship, where he was runner-up, he won’t be participating.
But despite the ups and downs of his career, the golfer’s strong support system has been his strength in coping with all the struggles. Be it the performance decline or the suspension that could end his professional career. So let’s check who the support pillars of the professional golfer turned influencer are.
Wesley Bryan’s wife
The golfer found his biggest support pillar in his wife, Elizabeth Gray. The pair was born in Irmo, South Carolina, in 1990; they were destined to be together. They first met at the age of 4 years during pre-school, but their love bloomed during the junior year of high school. Despite the career choices and different colleges, they kept a strong bond. And soon after college, they tied the knot on August 19, 2012. Since the day they have shared a great bond. Even their family is now of 5 with three daughters.
Well, apart from personal life development, Gray has been spotted in support of Bryan both at the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour. The duo has been supportive of each other. Away from Gary’s support at the course, Bryan also hasn’t shied from sharing the support. He once shared, “I feel like she’s really called to be in the field of medicine and caring for her patients.” He shared during an interview that despite the result of the course, having his wife’s unconditional love is a huge relief.
Other than Elizabeth Gray, his support is extended to his golfing family, which helped him in pursuing the sport professionally.
Bryan’s golfing family
George III, father of Wesley Bryan, was a PGA professional who founded the Chapin, South Carolina-based George Bryan Golf Academy. Watching the father, his three kids, including George Bryan, Wesley Bryan, and Mary Chandler, chose to pursue golf. George Bryan, being the eldest, started two years early but had a hard time getting the PGA Tour card. He debuted at the Northern American Tour after 13 years of turning professional.
Even their sister, Chandler, has been a collegiate-level golfer with accolades of All-Colonia Athletic Association First Team honoree for her performance in 2014 and 2015. But only the brother duo chose golf as their career. They even started a YouTube channel for trick shot videos with the name of Bryan Bros Golf. Their channel grew substantially and is currently among the most successful accounts on social media. Their YouTube channel has over 550K subscribers, while on Instagram it is over 330 K. In fact, their video with Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, and other prominent names has garnered more than a million views.
They have both been great supporters of each other and have also been seen playing together professionally. Take the example of the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship that teed off on November 9, 2023. However, now with the suspension, the duo might not be seen together for a year or maybe more.
Bryan, on his suspension, said, “I’m extremely grateful to the Tour for that. I don’t want this to be the end of my professional golf career.” Usually, the suspension for participation in LIV Golf is one year, but it hasn’t been confirmed for Bryan’s case. However, he has already entered the official appeal process for it. With great support, the issues might not bother him, but the effect of his participation will come to light. However, there is no official confirmation about the suspension duration yet.
