YouTube star Jake Paul has finally locked in his next opponent—but it seems Canelo Alvarez is still living rent-free in his head. Earlier this year, ‘The Problem Child’ was in negotiations with the Mexican superstar for a fight. However, ‘Cinnamon’ turned out to be a better businessman than Paul would have thought. Why?
Canelo ditched ‘El Gallo’ to sign a four-fight deal with the architect of the Riyadh Season, Turki Alalshikh, which will see him lock horns with William Scull and Terence Crawford. Regardless, Paul seemingly moved on, failing to secure a fight with Gervonta Davis as well. Now, he has settled on former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Chavez Jr. called out Paul for a fight back in November last year after his unanimous decision win over legendary Mike Tyson. Even though Paul refused to fight Chavez Jr., claiming he wanted a tougher challenge, a drying pool of opponents seems to have convinced him otherwise. Now, with their fight locked in for June 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Paul has become a laughing stock as Canelo gets the last laugh.
Earlier today, ‘El Gallo’ posted a tweet boasting about his accomplishments in the sport, writing, “Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after 1 amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion.” He added, “I just defeated the baddest man on the planet and broke multiple records, and now I’m going against a former world champion with 54 wins who Canelo could barely beat.”

“Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, mexi-CAN knock him tf out,” he continued. “On Saturday, June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will defeat Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has. Viva La Puerto Rico.” Soon after this, Paul’s claims were countered by a community note that left him red-faced.
“‘Who Canelo could barely beat’ Canelo Alvarez dominated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. unanimously 120-108, meaning Chavez Jr. didn’t win a single round in the eyes of every judge,” the community note read. In fact, the fight was a one-sided domination, with Canelo outclassing Chavez Jr. in nearly every aspect.
