“This is for my family. Finally, the Tkachuk name will be on the Cup. This is for them. It was a long time coming, but this was for them. That is the best part of all of this,” said Matthew Tkachuk shortly after the celebrations began when the Florida Panthers clinched their first-ever Stanley Cup win in 2024. After all, it was a moment 30 seasons in the making, ending with a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in a heart-pounding Game 7! And let’s not forget it happened exactly a year and eleven days later, after the Panthers’ fell short to the Vegas Golden Knights and lifted that cup. But as important as the moment was for Matthew, it was for Brady Tkachuk too.
Now, a year later, with the Panthers looking like Cup contenders yet again, perhaps the memories from last year’s historic Stanley Cup triumph are beginning to fade. But not for long, with B/R Open Ice sharing a throwback clip on X! “Just moments after Matthew Tkachuk won his first Stanley Cup, Brady KNEW he needed to get there,” read the post.
And in the clip, Brady can be heard voicing his admiration but also letting some of that brotherly competitive spirit leak through. “You know what? It’s only fitting that there’s a Tkachuk on the cup. On the cup now, and I know there’s gonna be a Tkachuk—another Tkachuk on the cup later. Tonight I’m gonna celebrate him, celebrate all his hard work, all his determination. As a younger brother, he’s the epitome of a role model.”
It’s clear that his brother’s win lit a flame under Brady too. And now his dream of adding a second Tkachuk name onto the Cup might swing from dream to reality in a few short weeks. As the post further mentioned, “A year later, the Sens ended an 8-year playoff drought, and Brady has first shot at winning it all .”

After all, the win was everything the Tkachuk name stands for when it comes to hockey! It’s the pride the brothers carry for being born into a family with a father—Keith Tkachuk, who was already a dominant NHL force in his own right. And seeing Matthew lifting the cup, it wasn’t just a personal triumph but a proud chapter that got unfolded in the family story rooted in the sport. “I was up in the stands crying. Who wouldn’t? That’s my son down there. He just won the Stanley Cup. I’m so proud of that kid,” Keith later expressed.
But that didn’t mean that Brady was going to let himself get lost in the celebrations. So, who knows, we might hear Keith say some similar things this time around, only referencing his younger son.
Brady Tkachuk is all set for his playoffs debut
“Yeah, I mean, (the exit meeting) was a lot of the same. (I’m) sick and tired of losing. I don’t want to be going home in April anymore, it’s frustrating. At the end of the day, it’s just disappointing,” said Brady Tkachuk last year after the Sens failed to make the playoffs yet again. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Brady was already looking ahead while celebrating his brother’s Cup win.
And now, after seven seasons in the NHL, Tkachuk can put all talk of losing, of going home in April, behind him as he and his team finally get their long-awaited shot at the Stanley Cup. “It was seven long years,” Tkachuk said. “But you know, it feels good getting into it.”
Leading his team with 29 goals, Tkachuk will be pivotal if the Sens have any hope of beating the Toronto Maple Leafs. And after missing 8 of the Sens’ games since March 30 with injury, Tkachuk’s return to the lineup during their season finale couldn’t have been timelier.
He didn’t finish the game, but his exit was only precautionary; there was no point in taking unnecessary risks. “I haven’t played in 2 1/2 weeks,” he said. “So just get the timing, and I mean it’s not that much time at the end. But I just wanted to get some reps, power-play reps, and I think we accomplished that.”
It’s the long-awaited Battle of Ontario, but will Brady and co. come out on top? With 7 years of disappointment and his brother’s achievement fueling Brady, June could turn into another month of celebration for the Tkachuk family. After all, when it comes to playoff hockey, nothing is predictable. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
