“It’s a huge goal of mine, but I feel like if I keep doing what I’m doing and get in contention to win some tournaments and start winning some tournaments and majors, then it’ll all take care of itself.” Justin Thomas made it clear how important it was for him to be in the Ryder Cup, but his performance raised concerns. The 2022 PGA Championship winner hasn’t won any event since then. Even though he came close to victory with multiple runner-ups and top-5 finishes, but could not get to the victory.
Now, after 2 years, 10 months, and 29 days, the 16-time PGA Tour winner has ended his victory drought, and his overwhelmed emotional interviews show it all. After clinching victory in the playoffs against Andrew Novak, JT expressed about his victory in an interview with Amanda Balionis.
“Winning is hard, it’s really really hard,” were the starting words of his statement. After accomplishing what was missing for almost 3 years, the golfer got emotional while speaking. He continued with tears and a shaking voice about his hard journey with gratitude towards his support pillars. He said, “But I worked my b–t off, stayed patient, stay positive, got a great wife, great team.” JT married Jillian Wisniewski in 2022 and has recently welcomed their daughter, Molly. His wife has been a great supporter of him, as he earlier also thanked her for her support in keeping JT motivated despite the result.

Even further into the interview, with emotions running high, the golfer laid out the reality about winning. JT said, “Just take for granted sometimes when you get on those runs, I didn’t realize how much I miss winning and just battling out there, and that’s so much fun.” The two-time major winner has showcased his exceptional game in his career and has even reached the pinnacle with his OWGR, but in the past three years, the results have been gut-wrenching. Take the example of the 2025 schedule, JT, with his 10 participations, was placed runner-up twice and top-10 twice. Coming so close to the win, but still staying far from ending the drought, is what JT has faced till the RBC Heritage.
Even at the post-match press conference, Justin Thomas shared what the last thing was required for well-being.
Justin Thomas on “my own well-being” after victory
The constant question on performance and victory has made a home for JT in the past 3 years. The golfer, when even asked about his performance review from the past three years, and how a win could end the bad stretch, he shared his thoughts. JT said, “I’d say so. I mean, I think it was the last thing missing, if you will. I don’t know. It’s hard to say because obviously careers are so long and there’s so much up and down and lots going on that you never know what point of your career you’re at until it’s over. At least for me, I felt like it was the last thing that I needed to do for my own well-being.” JT turned professional in 2013 and has been on a spree of posing with trophies. His first victory came in 2015 and has continued to increase with each passing year until 2022. After being a pro for more than a decade, the unusual feeling and usual questions with each press conference made him realize the missing piece.
But now, with the victory, he has expressed his joy. JT added, “Yeah, I’m way, way, way more happy for myself than I am of anything in that regard, of not having to deal with that or anything anymore.” Now with the win, the golfer who earlier shared hopes for the Ryder Cup has placed a strong foot forward with his performance. Additionally, he has jumped two spots in the OWGR as he is now World No. 6, but will he get through the team selection after his victory? What are your thoughts on it?
