“Nah, I don’t think I’m ever going to be at peace with it,” said Becky Sauerbrunn, “I feel like I probably could have gone another year, maybe two years.” That’s what the USWNT veteran admitted shortly after hanging up her boots last year, making it clear she wasn’t fully settled with her decision. Shocking right? Almost as if one would ask the returned center-back to make a U-turn from her decision. While it may seem unlikely that Sauerbrunn will return to the field, her former NWSL coach has left the door wide open for her to make a comeback!
This all came in a special live episode of the Good Vibes FC segment from The Women’s Game podcast — co-hosted by Seattle Reign star Lynn Biyendolo and former USWNT stars Sam Mewis and Becky Sauerbrunn — the trio invited former Arsenal manager Laura Harvey for a tête-à-tête. Interestingly, during the conversation, Mewis asked Harvey whether she is relieved that Becky is retired as the English boss was facing the former defender’s NWSL team Portland Thorns last week.
Of course, knowing what kind of threat Sauerbrunn was during her playing time, Harvey quickly answered, “Always [relieved].” But before she could think of ending it there, the 44-year-old tactician ended up making a heartwarming proposal to the former Thorns star. “… Or she could come play for us, either one works,” added Harvey.
(This is a developing story…)
