The Oakland Athletics are without a home. Well, it may sound like a bold statement to be precise, but it cannot be turned down as well. That’s what sums it up for the Athletics, who left Oakland after playing 57 seasons. Now, what came as a surprise during the intense game between the Athletics and Texas Rangers was a Rangers announcer hilariously calling out their name amid the stadium woes.
Just before the start of the game, as the drone takes us down through the Tower Bridge over the Sacramento River, Texas Rangers’ announcer, Dave Raymond, took a hilarious dig at the Athletics, calling them “homeless”.
Well, it was not intended to offend anyone; rather, it was a humorous remark made during the live broadcast to add some lightness to the problems surrounding the A’s Vegas home. “Right across the West Sacramento, home of the Athletics…frankly the homeless Athletics,” Dave Raymond said, indicating the nomadic nature of the Athletics. The A’s relocation also makes them the first-ever franchise to move on to four different locations. It all started back in Philadelphia, where they moved in 1901; later they moved to Kansas City in 1955, followed by Oakland in 1968 and now to Sacramento.

It’s been a roller-coaster ride for them and they will take a lot of memories, reminiscing every moment in different stadiums all throughout their long journey. However, problems are galore in front of them.
With their Las Vegas stadium projected to open in 2028, the Athletics will play their home games at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento through at least 2027. This temporary arrangement underscores their current “homeless” status, as humorously noted by Dave Raymond during the broadcast.
But is that correct from the Athletics’ viewpoint, who do not want to claim the city?
Well, technically it remains their home, unless they get back to Las Vegas. But it’s way beyond. As the Athletics wait for the billion-dollar stadium to get ready in Las Vegas, they will simply like them to be called the Athletics and nothing else. Even so, it does not appear that the club’s current circumstances will stop encouraging more people to call them whatever they want in the days ahead, despite all the controversy and talk surrounding their name after they moved to Sacramento.
Amid the fun banter, the Athletics are making the best of it while playing in Sacramento. Their recent victory against the Texas Rangers gives a clear indication that despite playing in different stadiums and in different conditions, they will continue to excel, no matter what.
The Athletics make their way to victory against the Texas Rangers
Although the two teams played a fantastic game, the Athletics lost Tuesday’s opener but secured a 5-2 victory over the Rangers on Wednesday. Thanks to the support of every player in the team, be it Shea Langeliers, who made 4 hits against the Rangers or Tyler Soderstrom, who also made 12 extra-base hits, combining his nine home runs and three doubles. For Nick Kurtz, a young prospect who made his Athletics debut, the victory was even more memorable than it was for any other Athletics fan. The 22-year-old first baseman managed to post a single RBI, hitting against Kumar Rocker, starting pitcher of the Rangers. But that’s not all!
Nick Kurtz recorded an RBI single with an impressive exit velocity of 112.2 mph — the hardest-hit ball of the game. Athletics’ manager, Mark Kotsay, heaped praise on him, stating, “You saw the joy, right? It was a great moment. You saw his teammates all excited for him. … You could feel that energy in the stands as well.” Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers also gave up a fight, as their infielder, Josh Smith, made a walk, accompanied by a single by Wyatt Langford. However, Athletics eventually defeated the Rangers.
Do you think the Athletics will be able to replicate the same magic against other teams, just as they did against the Rangers in the stadium in Sacramento? Let us know in the comments.
