“I think this is the moment Shedeur Sanders hopes it’s gonna happen. I do hope that the Pittsburgh Steelers take Sanders at this point. If he does not go here, I don’t have a home for him. I think he’ll fall out of the way for the 1st round.” This is what top-notch draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said on Wednesday on NFL Network, and look at what’s happening in the NFL draft 2025.
First of all, the Giants passed Shedeur and picked up Abdul Carter. Then everyone would have thought that the Buffs QB would land in New England, Las Vegas, but they also crossed him. Then the Saints, who were eager to draft a QB because of Derek Carr‘s shoulder injury, also dropped Sanders.
By this time, it was clear that there was only Mike Tomlin‘s team who’s gonna pick him up. And boom. NFL Commissioner said, “With the 21st pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Derrick Harmon, defensive tackle, Oregon,” and everybody was shocked. Does that mean Daniel Jeremiah’s prediction is going to be true?
Well, before finding that out, let’s check out what Mike Tomlin has said about selecting a defensive tackle from Oregon rather than the Buffs QB1. When NFL reporters approached the Steelers’ head coach about passing on Shedeur was a surprise; he gave a clear explanation. According to reporter Nick Farabaugh, “Mike Tomlin says Derrick Harmon will learn from Cam Heyward as his mentee and be a ‘starter for him’ for years to come.” Not just that.

Tomlin says Harmon has been ‘impressive at every level of the process’ for the Steelers.
“We got more and more comfortable.”

The reporter also dropped Tomlin’s explanation for the move. Mike Tomlin said, “[Derrick was] ‘impressive at every level of the process.’” However, he also said, “We got more and more comfortable.” To talk more about Harmon, the Oregon DT, who has made 5 sacks and 45 tackles in the 2024 NCAA season, was not on everybody’s draft list at the 21st position. It was a bit surprise pick as the Steelers don’t have a long-term or young QB.
Wait a minute… If the Steelers have selected a defensive tackle, and that too in the first round. That means the Steelers are confident with their QB strategy, right? They would either select a QB in the next 2-3 rounds, or they may sign a veteran QB from free agency. And that does not wipe out the possibility of Aaron Rodgers joining the Pittsburgh team. Well, only time will tell if Rodgers is joining the Steel City team.
However, before that, let’s check out what former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky said about Shedeur Sanders. His stance was strong, and the words were like a knife cutting soft skin. Let’s dive in.
Dan Orlovsky’s hot take on Shedeur Sanders
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky and Marcus Spears were having a conversation on First Take on Thursday. While discussing top drafts, Shedeur Sanders’s topic came up on the floor. And Spears started to give his opinion on potential landing spots for Sanders while praising him. After Spears ended his take on Sanders, former NFL QB (and now analyst) Dan Orlovsky dropped a fiery take on Deion Sanders’s son.
“While his dad was one of the greatest ever, Shedeur’s not that right now physically. He’s not this remarkable, rare, unbelievable unicorn athlete,” Orlovsky pounded Sanders like this. He also said that he thought Shedeur was going to go 21 to the Steelers on day one. But things have gone differently. NFL fans are calling out top draft analysts as no team picked Shedeur in the first 32 picks.
Well, let’s see where Shedeur Sanders lands. It could be fun to watch. He’s got talent for sure. But the real question is how that’s gonna play out when he’s up against the big guys. Wherever he ends up, you know people are gonna be watching.
