It’s been a while—4 years, to be exact since Ian Book made it to the NFL. But it hasn’t been a smooth sailing transition for the former Notre Dame QB, who used to wreak havoc in college. Like throwing 8,948 passing yards for 72TDs in just 47 games is in no way an easy feat to achieve. This is a QB who was once voted MVP by his Notre Dame teammates in his first year as a starter for the Fighting Irish.
Well, no one really saw it coming that Book would make such huge waves at Notre Dame—Not even his father, who used to be a one-time three-star signal caller himself.
Who is Ian Book’s Dad?
See, Book’s father, Rick, was a retired Sacramento County Sheriff who served 31 years on the job. So, some of you can already imagine how tough a character he would have been to Book growing up. However, it was nothing like that. Instead, he had a completely different side that many people were not aware of. Book’s former scout, Terrance Leonard, once revealed to Indy Star, “Rick is not what people consider the Quarterback Dad. Rick’s not the helicopter parent. He has a great sense of humor, but he also has a serious side. His dad was always honest with him, and that’s what Ian was all about.”
Speaking of honesty, when Rick was asked if he ever thought that Book would be such a huge superstar for Notre Dame. He didn’t shy away from hiding his true thoughts, “No. I mean. I would be lying if I said I did.” Now, he may not have predicted the success his son got at Notre Dame. But he sure did know from the bottom of his heart what his son was truly capable of, “I’ve always had the utmost confidence in him and have always been surprised and impressed with how well he’s handled everything from high school all the way up.”
Besides sharing his views on Book’s Notre Dame excellence. Rick also added how he and his wife couldn’t have been more proud watching their son’s growth, “My wife and I couldn’t be more proud of how he’s handled his success and even through the lows, the highs and the lows.” And to add more clarification, Rick also called out those who never took Book’s talents seriously, “The lows were people banging on him, upset at him and everything else. He handled that better than I probably could have handled it. So, yeah, we’re incredibly proud.”
While his dad was always there to speak up about his son, Book’s mom never really had that public persona to herself.
Who is Ian Book’s mom?
Little is known about Book’s mom, Kim, who has probably kept herself away from the public eye. However, away from the cameras, Kim remains a registered nurse who specializes in helping patients in emergency conditions. Besides playing a literal hero by saving lives, Kim also indulges herself in cardiac research. This shows how seriously she takes her profession and continues to work tirelessly to save people from heart ailments. Because we all know how fatal cardiac arrests can be. So, her work toward bringing a change in cardiac arrest treatments deserves all the recognition she can possibly garner.
But unfortunately, that’s it. There’s no information about her childhood or educational background. However, you could have probably guessed by now that she had some interest in medical science. If she didn’t have that desire, then there was no chance she would have been working vigorously to save lives as we speak.
