Charissa Thompson’s the kind of person who’ll say the quiet part out loud—and somehow make it hilarious. Her stories don’t come with filters, and that’s kind of what makes them land so well. On Calm Down with Erin and Charissa, she once admitted to ditching her boyfriend in a packed Times Square just to catch an NFL game—she told him, “Love you, but I’m gonna leave you.”
That’s just classic Charissa—boldly owning every unfiltered moment. And her latest one? It’s a total gem. Let’s just say, renewing her driver’s license turned into a full-blown saga. On a new episode of the Calm Down podcast, she shared how what was supposed to be a quick DMV stop spiraled into a mascara-hunting, chapstick-blush-wearing scramble after being hit with, “You need a new photo.”
“I have a DMV appointment, don’t even take a shower,” she started explaining to Erin Andrews. “I throw a sweatshirt on, throw jeans on, hair is back like this, no makeup, get in the car. Don’t think I have to take a photo. I’m at the DMV, and the guy’s so nice that he’s helping me and he’s doing this and doing this and doesn’t say anything about the photo. Gives me all the paperwork.” Sounds too smooth, right?
Well, wait until she tells you about her struggles when she was asked to take a picture for her new driving license. “As I’m walking away from the window, he goes, oh, oh yeah, you have to go take a picture,” she continued. “I have to, I looked at him, I go, ‘Now I have to take a picture?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, just go over to that line right there with the camera thing and just stand in that line to take a new photo for your license.’ And I was like, ‘Do I have to?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, it’s for the new photo for the new license.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, so this is me.’”
Now, picture this: Charissa Thompson, the same woman who looks camera-ready every NFL Sunday, now crouched in her car outside the DMV after she was caught off guard, digging through coins and chargers just to find a scrap of mascara. Because yeah, outside the NFL world? It’s real life. No glam team. No warning. Just chapstick-as-blush and panic-mode creativity. And honestly? That’s exactly why her stories hit so hard.
“So I go back to the car… I’m rummaging through the middle console. Is there an extra, you know, bronzer in here, is there a brush, is there anything? I find a Clinique sample of little mascara at the bottom after I go through the coins… So I’m now I’m like, okay, I’m flicking on the mascara. I’m like, great. No blush. I’ve got none of this stuff. So I’m like, well, at least I have some semblance of color from this burnt tan thing.”
“I’ve got tattooed eyebrows and a little tattooed lip. So we got that covered. So I’m taking the ChapStick and I’m rubbing it on my cheeks. Now I’m rubbing the ChapStick on my cheeks that have a little of like pink tint. So I’m like, OK, we got that going up. I’m going like this.” So, finally, after enough struggles to get into the proper look, Charissa was now ready to take a picture for her license. But she still had a couple of questions in her mind.
Should she smile? How does the photo look? The kicker? Well, the guy straight-up declared that the photos will be emailed after two weeks. And when she asked, “I don’t get to look at it?” The man replied, “No.” Plain and simple. Meanwhile, besides her driving license story, her contract with Fox is still the talk of the town.
Charissa Thompson is not leaving Fox?
Ever since the wrap-up of the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the Eagles, there has been uncertainty about Charissa Thompson’s return to Fox. After all, the sportscaster’s contract was up after the 2024 NFL season. Amidst the NFL offseason, Thompson surely caught everyone’s attention on her weekly appearance on the Calm Down Podcast with Erin Andrews, and with her new career move with Blue Origin for a space mission.
But her return to Fox? Yeah, that had people guessing for a while. Rumors were flying that the 42-year-old might be done with the network for good. But Charissa finally cleared the air on the Calm Down podcast with Erin Andrews—because, of course, she did. “No, I’m not leaving FOX,” Thompson said. “I was never leaving FOX.”
“I don’t know where this took on a life of its own, where I was hosting my family at the ranch for the past weekend. Four of my family members asked, ‘Well, the place looks great. How are you going to afford it now that you don’t have a job?’ I’m not leaving FOX. I was never leaving FOX. I’m not fired.” The place she was referring to is her 75-acre oasis, Ruby Ranch home in central California.
So yeah, despite all the buzz and backyard gossip, Charissa’s still clocked in at Fox—no pink slip, no dramatic exit. Just her, the ranch, and one seriously cleared-up rumor.
