Where Will the 2025 Truist Championship Take Place? History of the Signature Event’s Venue Explored

Golf’s biggest stars are set to shine in Philly! The 2025 Truist Championship is coming to Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course from May 8-11, serving as a final prep session for the 2025 PGA Championship. After years in Charlotte, North Carolina, the tournament is making a new pit stop in Pennsylvania.

Rory McIlroy, fresh off his wins at the 2025 Masters and Players Championship, is looking to add another trophy to his collection as the defending champ. Can he keep the momentum going at the Truist Championship? Well, it all comes down to one thing, and that is the course.

Philadelphia Cricket Club is ready to test the skills of pros

Philadelphia Cricket Club, a century-old venue, is set to host the 2025 Truist Championship, bringing top-level golf to this historic course. Designed by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast in the early 1920s, the course has undergone restoration work to reclaim its original glory. After years of aging, Keith Foster was brought in to restore the course to its former state, removing trees, reclaiming original greens and bunkers, and reviving the famed “Great Hazard” on the par-5 seventh hole.

The course has a rich history, with Tillinghast’s ashes scattered in the Wissahickon Creek that crosses the 18th green, as per his request. Philadelphia Cricket Club has been recognized as one of the greatest courses in the country, ranking 124th in the Second 100 Greatest and consistently placing in the top 10 best courses in the state.

With its challenging layout and storied past, the club is ready to welcome the PGA Tour’s best golfers for the 2025 Truist Championship, while Quail Hollow Club will host the PGA Championship.

Philadelphia Cricket Club is getting back in the game

The Philadelphia Cricket Club has been buzzing with activity as it prepares to host the Truist Championship, its first PGA Tour event in nearly a decade. The club’s staff has been working tirelessly to ensure the Wissahickon Course is in top condition, with over 100 people, including volunteers from 24 different clubs, contributing to the effort. Every divot and ball mark on the course was replaced with grass plugs, and the grounds crew was now making final touches, including setting up ropes and stakes to cordon off gallery areas.

The course will have a $20 million purse up for grabs, with a significant difference between the winner and runner-up, making every detail crucial. “If my members win and lose their match against their buddies, they might have missed out on $5,” said Dan Meersman, PCC’s director of grounds and facilities. “A missed putt in this tournament could cost you ($1.5 million), so how smooth is that green matters a lot.”

The club’s members and guests are excited to experience the tournament buildout, with double-decker observation stands and seating framing the greens. The Wissahickon Course has 118 bunkers spanning 104,000 square feet, which will be meticulously maintained by the grounds crew. The course was rerouted in 2016 to create more space for spectators and set up the course for a dramatic finish. “It finishes with four of the best holes on the entire property and three of the strongest finishing holes you’ll see in golf,” Meersman said.

With the Truist Championship coming to the Philadelphia Cricket Club, the course is ready to showcase its capabilities and potentially make it a regular stop on the PGA Tour schedule.
