“Depressing”: Internet Angry With Clemson Gymnastics’ Latest Decision After Coach’s Firing

We’re fired up to have Amy Smith lead our women’s gymnastics program. She understands what it takes to win a national championship, and her experience within the ACC, SEC, and PAC-12 really stand out” came the statement from Clemson’s athletics director, Graham Neff. The announcement, made on April 18, 2025, was brief and did not provide specific reasons for her departure. Neff stated that the university would immediately begin a national search for a new head coach. A week later, he said, “Clemson gymnastics is a top-10 job in the country, even though it’s still in its infancy so to speak,“. Now, as we pass through 1/3rd of May, Clemson gymnastics is yet to find a head coach, and it has already taken its toll. What happened?

A press release was issued by Clemson gymnastics, signed by Amy Smith. Titled “Tiger Gymnastics Camps Canceled – Refunds to Follow – Chance to Purchase Leotards,” the release formally announced the cancellation of the gymnastics summer camp at 510 East Beach Drive. The reason? No new coach. In the release, it was said that the university would transfer all camp operations to the new incoming coach, but a new incoming coach has yet to be found.

As a result, Clemson advised us to officially cancel camp,” it read. The Tiger Gymnastics Camp is designed to provide gymnasts aged 6 to 18 with high-level training and exposure to collegiate coaching. The camps are led by Clemson Gymnastics coaches and staff.  Though yes, the cancellation of the camp has been a piece of sad news for the parents and the children who had registered themselves for it, but it as something else that caught the attention of fans.

While the press release guaranteed refunds to everybody, it also said, “If you have an interest in purchasing a leotard. There are varying sizes available for $100.00 plus $11 25 for S/H with payments through Venmo @amvdianesmith314“. $112 FOR A LEOTARD!!!, that to when there is no camp??? If that is what just went through your minds right now, you’re so in alignment with what all the other fans are thinking. A father who had registered his daughter for the camp said, “And like… why would we want a leo to commemorate not going to camp? That’s depressing, no thanks.

And that man is not alone. The Tigers’ fans are already trying to find out the reason Amy was fired, and now canceling the gymnastics summer camp, overpriced leotards – all are bringing in some very angry reactions from the fans.

Fans outraged by Clemson gymnastics decision

The price of the Leotards has left the fans in some sort of state of shock. A fan commented, “IM SORRY $112 for a leotard purchased through VENMO?!“. The price of the leotards on the team’s official website has not gone past $60. Another fan took a dig at the price of these, “Also what is so special about this leo? The Olympic replica leos from GK are $90. I considered buying a leo from a university as a booster and it was $75.” At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Team USA’s gymnasts wore bespoke leotards designed by GK Elite Sportswear, each valued at approximately $3,000.

For those interested in similar styles, GK Elite also released replica versions of these Olympic leotards, retailing at $89.99.  So when a fan says, “Yeah, that feels so money-grabbing!“, not a to of facts you might be able to counter it with. Canceling the summer camp has already been outrageous, and now, with overpriced leotards, the fans are not so very happy. What could be the solution? One fan has it. He said, “they should send free leotards to everyone who registered as an apology for cancelling so late.

A father who has had his experience with these outfits also dropped in his insights. He said, “I bought one of these overpriced leos last year at the summer camp, my daughter LOVES Clemson. It was $100 then. You’d think if she was trying to offload them, she’d sell for less. So ridiculous.” One testimony, and that too, not even god. But what do you think about these Leotards? Are they overpriced or not? Have you ever bought them? The comment section is all yours.
